Let me preface this by stating that I am genuinely curious what your opinions are - I have no motives (either to brag, or whatever) by posting this.
Today I went out to the range. I haven’t been in a millenia. I wanted to make sure my rifles were still zeroed. I am just wondering considering ammo, shooting platform, etc would you be happy with these groups? I guess I’m only asking because although I will continue to practice and get better I would like to know just how much more accuracy is capable from these weapons given the ammunition/barrel length, etc.
Also, the groups are only ~7 or 8 rounds due to time constraints. Both strings began just before cease fires were called.
Federal XM193 at 300 yards.
12.5" BCM Stainless Steel Barrel w/ AAC 762SD
Cheap grip-pod bipod and folded spotting scope bag for support
TA31 4X ACOG
Black circle is 8" in diameter
Federal XM193 at 200 yards
10.3" DD Barrel w/ AAC M4-2000
Same cheap grip pod
Aimpoint T1 4 MOA
The vast majority of folks have no clue what their rifle’s accuracy is on paper @ 200/300yds…so either way good for you for actually evaluating your rifle to the best of your abilities.
Your shooting results are below:
With the right optic, and trigger I’m sure those groups could be smaller, but considering the optics, and lack of trigger acknowledgment I’d say those groups are to be expected irregardless really of barrel length…be it a 10.5 or 16".
You could say that. I have some documentation from the Marine Corps that says I know how to shoot and teach others how to as well.
No. “Friends don’t let friend’s shoot unsuppressed” and all that…
Those charts were awesome, I really appreciate it brother. I saw the link at the bottom, is the program easy to use?
These are from a little while back, I’d really like to use that program on this target and see what my MOA was but I don’t want to download it if its a pain in the ass.
This was with Federal XM855 and the 12.5" w/ ACOG at 565 yards. That 11th shot on the far left was not one of my impacts and circled in error. I’m gonna try out the program and see if I can get it figured out.
Even still, I’m going to take it out Thursday or Friday and try again. I didn’t get to shoot much at distance yesterday. I want to do 10 round groups anyway.
My post was more of a reply to his question of “would you be happy with these groups?”. If it were me I wouldn’t be happy. Ammo, optics, , grippod, whatever, I’d be trying something different to make them shrink. I wasn’t commenting so much on my doubt of your ability but more on the sizes themselves.
Considering the ammo, I think he’s fine. I’d lose the goddamned grippod and shoot off of a pack though. I’d also change out the ammo and lube the trigger properly (doesn’t take much).
Don’t need to justify it, if you ain’t happy, you ain’t happy. :dirol:
I’m not too happy either, I would like to see 10rd groups inside that 8" circle at 300 yards so I’ll be using a better rest (pack, as lebowski said) and better ammo.
My main reason for making the thread was given the conditions and ammo were those groups decent? It appears that they were and now I can get to shrinking them with expensive ammo that won’t be wasted on poor fundamentals. Although with ammo prices these days, I can probably replace Hornady Superperformance for the same price as M193.
Mark, is that Mexican ammo you speak of the same stuff you use in your turf wars with Grant?
No. “Mexican Match” is a nickname for taking factory ammo, and replacing the bullet, and possibly the powder with match stuff…
Cheaper than paying for factory match ammo. And the technique works good. I took 4 MOA Herters, changed the bullet to a Sierra matchking… and turned it into 1 moa ammo.
I tried every combo short of changing the primer. The bullet was the problem component. Everything else was fine. the powder charges were even pretty consistent weights.
I even tried loading the hert bullet in brass cases… still 4MOA.
If those goofy Russians put a good bullet in their ammo, they could double the price.
