Indeed. Perhaps you could help us out and fill in a few blanks. If an OPSEC issue, no worries.
I have it on my patrol rifle. Optics are not YET authorized on my dept, hoping this changes very soon as we get new polices. Anyway, the XS 24/7 front sight does not have an independent base. Regardless of this, I really like the sight a lot. Obviously you need the white/green facing you so you need to make full rotations when zeroing, but I just keep it even with the FSB and was able to get it zero’d perfectly. The white stripe is a nice addition during the day and the tritium is nice and bright in low light/no light situations. IMHO, it makes point shooting easier/quicker in CQB, being able to see the white/green front sight in your peripheral vision. Well worth my money.
the XS 24/7
I also have the XS 24/7 front sight with their dual aperture same plane rear sight that does not have the night sight. I like this set up a lot. Like others have pointed out, I don’t think you really need night sights on the rear. But first I would make sure I had a reliable white light on my rifle before adding a night sight.
Thanks Delta, I just may get one of the XS sight systems. That CSAT rear sight looks like it just might work.
One of my co-workers has a Bushnell Trophy red/green optic on her rifle. And that has open sights along the top of the scope. Looks weird, but hopefully she’ll let me shoot it next week at qualifications.
And this is coming from a guy that runs a KX3 on 14.5"+ barrel? So it throws the flash forward, huh?
No offense man, but it doesn’t look like you “know” what you’re talking about at all. Without addressing the inconsistencies in your statement above, your setup has a number of things that are rather poorly thought-out - that’s fine because it’s your gun and it’s your choice. However, don’t think that you can dazzle people with lines like “you don’t know what I know” when all of the proof says otherwise.
An AR used in low-light/no-light conditions needs a light or (however impractical) a NVD. No amount of tacticool add-ons will compensate for the danger of using an AR without the ability to ID your targets beforehand. Relying on outside/external lighting is extremely stupid and can get people killed, both potential friendlies and yourself.
Your front sight is backwards.
Haha, this thread is taking a turn towards the epic.
i’ve seen guys put them on backward deliberately… it doesn’t really matter, though backward gives you about .5" longer sight radius.
In all fairness, the instructions do say you can run the front either way, by that it was intended to face forward.
I have night sights on almost all of my weapons to include my carbine and HD shotgun. I agree that a white light is a great option and have no problem with people recommending them. I view night sights as a method of getting on target prior to illumination and as a method of engagement if it becomes necessary to do so before I have decided to turn on my light. In addition, some people forget that in a dark room turning on a light is going to ruin everyone’s night vision, not just the bad guy’s. Hopefully he gets it worse than you, but what if there is more than one? I like to have options and night sights allow me to do that.
My KISS carbine has a set of Trijicons on it. The rear is annoying. I got a hell of a deal on them. But I agree, in L.E.O. and civilian scenarios, a light is the best option. And you can get a light that works for about the price of the Trijicon set. I have a carbine I use a TLR1 on. About $100 if you shop around. A Surefire G2LED is about $60. Use a 1" scope ring to mount it.
