AR10 Barrel Question

If a person is building an AR10 and can purchase a Stainless Steel 18" 1/8 barrel. I have two questions???:

  1. What ammo should be used to get the most from this length and twist?
  2. With said ammo, what will be max effective range with barrel/ammo combo?

1:8 in a .308 barrel? That seems like a twist rate designed to stabilize heavy subsonic bullets. I’d strongly recommend something in the 1:10 to 1:11 twist range.

You could shoot 155gr Scenars or maybe 185gr Berger hybrids to maximize range (if you’re shooting paper or steel). If you’re talking about hunting and terminal ballistic effects you’d have to specify what sort of game you’re going after.

I would go 1:10 also.
