Hi everyone, I’m brand new here. I’ve been doing a little research on some new AR gear and I hope you like my wishlist. These are items that haven’t, in most cases, been aimed at the budget market. They may be expensive, but this setup is designed to be the best of the best, and I’m sparing no expense. If the gear listed below is looked at in a positive light, there is a strong chance that they will be in my possession as soon as possible. While viewing, please remember that price is irrelevant.
Next Generation Arms X8: This is a very interesting design. The idea behind the X8 is to make a monolithic upper and a monolithic lower, which in turn means less parts and more rigidity. I like the idea a lot, and to my knowledge the previous X7 was received quite well by customers. NGA has a bright future ahead of them and I can’t wait to see what the finished X8 is like.
Lancer Systems L5 AWM: This magazine combines the best of both worlds, and I can only classify it as a hybrid between a polymer mag and a steel one. Lots of interesting features, including 20-rounders. Would love to try these out, I’ve heard nothing but good things.
Trijicon Sealed Reflex Sight (SRS): This is an optic which is powered by a AA battery as well as a solar panel, guaranteeing that you will always have power. Lots of different brightness settings, and they’ve also minimized tube effect. People who’ve done reviews on it can’t wait for it to be out on the market.
hrrmmmm…With all due respect it seems like there was absolutely zero thought put into this list besides looking up what items cost the most in there respective categories. What would this do better than a Colt 6920 with an Aimpoint micro besides impress people who don’t know better?
Rather than spend all that money, on equipment that is a real unknown at this point, why not spend your money more wisely, and go with proven gear like a Colt SP6920, an Aimpoint M4S (or even a Micro) and PMags or regular GI magazines.
Also, might I suggest that you use the search function…
that monolothic thing… i could pass on that, there’s a lot of companies making proven stuff… i do like that new trijicon optic though. that thing looks cool.
I’m confused, do you already own an AR? If you do, what shortcomings do you see these products fulfilling that your current setup cannot be adapted to suit? If you do not own an AR, buy a Colt 6920, a light, an RDS, good sling and lots of mags/ammo. Go shoot it.
The Mags are your choice, most use PMAGS, but if you like the clear body have at it. The Trijicon also looks nice, and having owned Trijicon products before I can say it may be worth looking into.
As for that upper, I think the cost/benefit analysis will likely show that it is hardly worth the money spent. You will lose almost ALL of the modularity that the standard AR has in search of the next best thing. Heck, at that point you might as well just buy a SCAR.
Hope you do a little more research on the subject and buy a gun that meets your needs, not one that fulfills the desire to have something new, different and only moderately better (which is still debatable).
thanks for the quick replies guys… I’ve always had a weakness for new, shiny things. I’ve never really liked going with average (especially when it comes to firearms). If you all think the X8, etc. are bad ideas, then I’ll keep searching. I’ve had an AR in the past, but there was nothing special about it and it quickly lost its luster. I’m looking for something that really stands out!
Please do more research…you haven’t reached the end of the internet yet. Seriously, this place is a great wealth of knowledge and many have followed the advise given (including myself) AFTER using the orange search button. The stickies at the top should be your start. Welcome and good luck.
I would suggest more reading on this board and less surfing the net looking at new shiney things. If I wanted a quality weapon that’s a bit different than the average guy will have I would look at something along the lines of a Knights, Larue PredatAR, or some of the higher end Noveske’s. That would cover all your bases.
It is kind of hard to get true opinions on the rifle and the sight when they haven’t even been released yet. For the x-8 rifle, I guess it looks cool if that’s your thing and you want to show off to your friends. I would rather have a rifle that gets comments on how reliable it is. Granted, the x-8 could do that too but it hasn’t even been made yet to have anyone give it a thumbs up or down under real use.
In addition, the x-8 also defeats the modular nature of the AR-15 platform. If you buy it you are stuck with using a collapsible stock, even if you wanted to put a UBR or Vltor A5 on at a later date. I would also be interested to see how you could change the barrel when needed. I think you are waking down a somewhat proprietary road with the x-8.
As for the Trijicon, I would be interested to see it when it hits the market. However, I don’t think I would dump my current optics for it the minute it came out.
Ultimately, it is your money and you can spend it how you wish. However, if it were me, I would spend the money on a Noveske or KAC (more than likely one of their new offerings after SHOT), an Aimpoint or EXPS, and buy ammo with all of the left over money. Of course if money was truly no matter I would buy myself one of the NIB Full-auto M-16s I see on the internet every once and a while lol.
Anyways, these are just my opinions take them for what you will.
there is much wisdom to be had here, having grown through the same ‘gotta have the latest/greatest’ faze myself and realizing you’re only getting pulled into a marketing suckhole in many cases. on the other hand, there is some great gear out there, but you’ve ultimately got to decide the ‘real’ end use of your equipment and what you ‘really’ need to support it. are you going to shoot it…or just admire it?
Buy a Colt 6920, BCM, or Daniel Defense rifle. Buy a bunch of ammo, shoot it, enjoy it. Take a class if funds are available. If you prefer an optic, I’d recommend an Aimpoint. I am currently running a T1 Micro on a LaRue mount, but if you can get your hands on an Aimpoint PRO, those seem to be the best bang for the buck IMHO.
