AR Stocks on AKs: more thoughts

Re:https://www.m4carbine.net/showthread.php?97676-AR-stocks-on-AK-s-sacrilege-or-useful-modification/page4

Just put a JMAC M4 adapter on an AKM. The lockup is absolutely amazing - the most solid feeling kit I’ve felt on a rifle. There is ONE drawback - and I knew it was coming - it makes the irons slightly less easy to acquire, but it is doable.

I do think it will be about perfect when I put an RDS on though, so it can provide what is needed.

I did see comments in the above thread which say the the RD Gen 2 sits a tad lower, but pics don’t seem to reveal that. Also, the VLTOR seems to sit lower for sure - anyone use this and find it good for RDS without the riser?

I just don’t think anything could lock up tighter than this JMAC.

I installed Definitive Arms AR stock adapters on my Romanian SAR-2 and Zastava M70. No issues with iron sight alignment relative to the stock height. I definitely have zero desire to use anything else on an AK after trying the AR stock adapters.

I have always wanted to pick up a CNC Warrior/Bonesteel folding stock for my SAR-1. I’d got with right side folder so I could put on an RS Regulate optic side mount.

They are nice but don’t lock up in the folded position which for me is a nonstarter

I dont have a personal issue with them, yet i have seen the stock break when people have to mortar the rifles because of a malfunction. They do look funny with a AR stock installed. To each their own

This stock adapter seems to be a tad lower than the RD and JMAC, but definitely higher than the VLTOR - which may be actually too low. Also can evidently collapse the stock the whole way for transport.

Honestly with the 100 series of folding stocks, I don’t know why anyone would want a buffer tube stock given how prone to breakage they can be. Once you start shooting SLR FRs it’s hard to bother with anything else.

To get a 100 series I either sell the SAIGA and buy one or invest $500+ and send the gun out. I have considered it.

There is the Zenitco folder which does it all but at 21 oz. I don’t want it.

Well, except that the stock folds the wrong direction if you use optics on the side rail.

If your not set on the tube stock 100%
Might I suggest a Zenitco PT-1 2nd gen.
Locks completely solid closed and open. Everything is customizable, cheek rest height, length. Adjusted cheek rest allows easy use of Acogs and Eotech’s or other higher line of sight optics and scopes.

They come in a 4.5, 5.5 and “fixed stock versions!!!”

PT-1 is compatible with any RS Regulate mount, which as you might know can be folded with the RS MOUNT attached.
and the weight is nothing to be of concern at all.

These will not fold with ZENIT, NPZ optic rails.

Drawback,
Cost and availability
These hold their value very well and sells used as much as new. Look to spend 350-400 for one of these guys and 140 for your top and bottom RS rails.

There was a nice bronze 4.5 pin PT-1 on the files a few days ago for 350 shipped.

If you you want to invest in perfect ergonomics with the ass end of your ak, as well as providing a solution to optics management
I highly suggest sucking it up and buying a PT-1.

The CNC/ Bonesteel stock is great, my Saiga has the folding Galil style and my Draco runs their brace. Your choice as to which side it folds.

But my WASR has an AR buffer adaptor and a Fab Def GLCore AR stock. I needed something with a good adjustable cheek riser, this works. And an adjustable stock with magnified optics is handy. I agree the std. M4 stock looks out of place, but there’s plenty of aftermarket stocks too.

If it’s good enough for Rob Ski, good enough for me.

Now I somehow have a JMAC adapter and a VLTOR model.

The JMAC is great for higher optics fine for micros too.

The VLTOR is excellent for irons and very good for micros - especially if you want to cowitness. For elevated optics, you must do a chin weld. But with the trend in the AR world back to higher optics, why not.

I do think the JMAC is amazing for a robust and great looking build. I just think if it were 1/4" lower is would be ideal.

The VLTOR seems solid, but the mount is a bit of a jury rig. I still like it quite a bit, and if you have to run the irons, its better.
