So, just to see if the Tampa Gun Show last week was a fluke, I went to the Lakeland Gun Show today. Not a fluke, people really are pricing anything related to AR-15s stupid high. The sole exception were the guys from Anvil Arms and Spikes Tactical. Coincidentally, they were also the only non-assholes in attendance. The Spikes folks need to change the batteries on their EOThings though.
Anyway, based on what I saw, the average price for AR-15 lower receivers went from $175 to $250. Yeah, stupid high. Online, the average price seems to be somewhat lower at around $150-$200, unless youāre dumb enough to try to shop for them on auction sites. If you are, you deserve the price you pay. Just sayinā. Otherwise, there was only a few places that actually had lowers of any flavor in stock, and they were primarily DPMS (Iām not sure what that says).
Me, I just snagged a Spikes Tactical stripped lower for $150 from Military Gun and Supplies out of Fort Worth, Texas, mostly to make sure I have a receiver on hand to SBR. If anyoneās interested, MGS has about 30 of them. It looks like Spikes Tactical still lists the stripped lowers as $180 on their website, so this may or may not be considered a deal to you guys (the receivers Iāve purchased previously have all been for $75, so Iām spoiled as it is :o). MGS also has DPMS lowers (also for $150), but based on my experience with their customer service and their willingness to price their rifle at a point above its value I wonāt be purchasing any of their products.
Ranier Arms has stripped lowers in stock, too. Charles Daly Defense for $180, Lauer and Mega for $135, Noveske for too-God-damned-high ($295), and obligatory POF lowers for less than the Noveske ($205 for Gen I, $245 for Gen II).
Anyone else done any shopping around for lower receivers that can show availability/price?
most shows in my area there is only one or two tables that have a stack of receivers from one company or another (ie tactical inovations, superior, dpms) and they range from $175-$225
Theyāre prompt, and easy to deal with on the phone. You have to call them right after ordering anything that needs to go through an FFL to make sure they have the FFL in their system. Downside is they donāt mark who the box is addressed to, so if there are two boxes from MGS sitting in your FFL safe, they have no idea which box belongs to who.
I know I could have paid less, but $130 is not bad, and the mega is very clean compared to a few other brands I have looked at. I also like the darker look, and will get a mega upper to match it.
There are some uppers for $105 or so. I forget what brand and who was selling them.
I suppose that is about the same as $130 after FFL and shipping.

i just got 3 stripped lowers from http://www.essentialarms.com/LOWERSANDPARTS.HTML for $105.00 each they are ārationingā them 3 to a customer once a week. they are as beautifully finished as any other S.L. and the installation of the LPK is no different than any other S.L., and they function as a complete rifle as well as any other mfgr.s S.L. or complete rifleā¦, why pay $150.00 + for any S.L. when these lowers are āMilspecā and reasonably priced.?
the best way to contact them is CALL you may run into a busy signal but just keep clicking ārecallā button.
edited because:
sorry folks but i find it hard to read small print, is there any way here to increase the print size, i have IOC implants and wearing reading glasses makes the print blurry
Hold down control and use your mouse wheel, should grow or shrink the font on the whole page.
the control key is the one that says Ctrl⦠hopefully you have a mouse wheel, otherwise you will need to go into the āfile menuā up top and use the āViewā menu to pick a larger text size.
SOme guys from the local show here this weekend had a stack of Stag stripped lowers they were selling for $135 a piece. I thought that was a pretty good deal, and was suprised to see any lowers, especially any at that price!
I intentionally didn't go to the Lakeland show for that reason. I agree all AR parts have gone nuts, but the LP Kits have more than doubled if you can find them. Some of the lowers still have reasonable  prices if you can find a supplier that has them or can get them. Last lower I purchased was from a local shop for $130.00 about three months ago. And there were only 6 to be had. I don't have access to an FFL for a reasonable fee. I agree about the auction site prices. My God, I can't believe some folks are paying that. Maybe the supply will soon outgrow the demand? I mean, how long can tight pocketbooks of people support this
donāt forget G&R who has the CD for 150 and a territorial gunsmith for 189. also, i check smallarmsales.com frequently and they often have something for sale in the stripped and complete lower sections.
