AR Availability

Any body have any clues as to when we can start seeing ARs back on the market? What’s preventing some of the major manufacturers from getting their products out?

they are releasing products… and just as fast as they can build them, people are just scooping them up before they can stay in stock.

with the impending AWB, this will not change until the gubment realizes laws don’t apply to criminals.

Another 2 or 3 years?

After the 94 ban there was a lot of panic buying, like what is going on today.

By the time 1997, 1998 and 1999 rolled around, the market was pretty much back to normal.

The rough part is before any new laws are passed. After the laws are passed and people get to see what is going to be happening, things settle down. As long as Dianne Feinstein is talking, then the market will be stripped.

Things are already getting better. Quality bolt carrier groups and lower parts kits are the most limiting components right now, from what I see.

More items are coming in stock online, for longer periods of times, at lower prices, every week.

The last rifle component to get back to “normal” will probably be quality bolt carrier groups, IMO.

And ammunition will take longer than everything else.

Reassuring stuff. I’m in Northwest FL and it seems things are taking a while with the local stores. According to store personnel the distributors are taking awhile to get things out… really don’t know why that would be.

It seems like it’s taking a long time for the online retailers as well. Could be for the same reasons… it’s a lot easier to see how they would go out of stock quickly though.

Sandy hook also happened at a bad time of year.

Towards the end of december people are using their vacation time, christmas and new years. As we progress further into a year I look for parts to continue to hit the market.

However, I look for things to slow down in June and July as workers take vacation time when their kids are out of school for the summer.

Which really messes with my plans. I really hoping to get some things in my possession before I go to basic training this summer so I know I have them. I don’t think a ban will come out at all at this point in time however it would just be my luck that one would come out while I was in basic training and I’d be SOL.

Whats slowing things down is backorders, getting stores shevles filled again etc. I dont think people realize how many guns, and parts have been sold in the last 4 months alone.

And there are plenty of ars on the market now. Ive seen a bunch of colts etc for sale at certain online vendors.you just have to be willing to spend some extra dough right now.

Ya, not really willing to spend that much right now. I remembered hearing some stuff about banks trying to keep money away from gun manufacturers and the slowdown from that. I was wondering how much of the slow down was could be attributed to the manufacturing side as opposed to catching up on orders and what not.

…it’s just a matter of increased demand

It’s going to get worse before it gets better.
Tomorrow we see the proposal from … Well… I don’t even know what to refer to him/them as at this point.

It’s not too bad - check forums and get on ‘notification lists’ for websites you want stuff from.

Armslist.com has also been a great local resource for me. Especially when buying reloading components (avoiding hazmat charges/freight) and AR components. Picking up a couple lowers FTF today for $260, no freight, tax, or NICS charges.

That was a big thing that really effected squat in the end. The media blew it up to make some massive deal of it. I can assure you, the backlog of guns has 0 to do with banks, and 100% to do with the mass panic buying that went on.

Unfurtunately if your not willing to spend extra, odds are you wont be getting an ar anytime soon, as the prices probably wont settle for quite some time… that is if it ever does get back to how it was a year ago.

I think with the whole gun ban ordeal disappearing from the media, and newspapers, and credit card bills coming in, people have slowed down and stuff coming back in stock slowly as people arent buying everything up as fast.

I read somewhere that brownells sold 3 years worth of pmag orders in either 3 days or 3 weeks. The last 2 weeks of December decimated businesses inventory. I remember driving last the lgs in our town the Friday after Christmas (he’s only open Friday and Saturday) and there was a line 30 people deep waiting to get into the store. I’ve been looking hard for a lower or two that last month that isn’t price gouged. It’s painful. But at the same time I blame myself. Lowers were <$100 a few months ago. No reason I shouldn’t have had a few in the safe

I don’t think anyone has realized how many, literally millions of people, have all of a sudden decided to buy EBR’s. Even people who are generally against EBR’s are going out to buy EBR’s. Civilian manufacturers may never catch up with the massive numbers of people who now want to buy. Same thing with ammo. Think about it. Good luck,

When a lot of the retailers stop putting their inventory directly on GB.

Well it has to turn around sometime. Let’s not skip over the fact that these manufacturers made a whole lot of money in a very short period of time. As American’s were getting smarter and are going to make sure we have what we need so if something like this happens again… we’ll be GTG. From a business perspective the faster that can get products out and caught up the better position they will be in.

Our lgs has all the DPMS, Windam’s, S & W, and Mossbergs you could want on the shelf. Even saw a Colt.

It’s going to be interesting to say the least. There will be a fair amount of first time buyers that lose interest, sell off what they bought and never look back. Of course there will be those that stick with the hobby and become consistent ammo eaters and parts buyers. Like was said earlier a lot hinges on what we find out here shortly as far as which direction legislation is going to attempt to go in and how soon we find out how the majority of new consumers decides to respond.

Here’s to hoping nothing of substance passes and a flood of parts/ammo hits the market by a majority trying to get their recently spent savings back and pay off their newly acquired credit.

We have had multiple discussions on the subject in various places.
