AR Ammo question

XM193 5.56X45MM 55GR Full-Metal Jacket–Is this round different from a .223 Remington, and can it be fired in my Colt 6920 without damaging it?

Thanks, everyone
August

Please run a search here, this has been covered ad nauseum. In a word yes it’s safe in your 6920, as 5.56mm is loaded a bit hotter than .223.

Thanks Mike. Sorry, this is my second day as a member, don’t really know how to search for specific answers yet.

No sweat, welcome to the board. Just spending some time searching will yield many results and there is a very substantial knowledge base available here.

Mike, You’re sure right about all the knowledge freely available on this site. I’ve been lurking without being a member for weeks now, and have gained a tremendous base just reading everything I can. I’m just about to order my first AR. I started thinking about ordering ammo, looked up a dozen sites, the least expensive being 35 cents a round. I do recall lots of discussion on .556 being a mil spec round (hopefully I’m using that lingo correctly), but when I found this one that said 45mm, I didn’t recall if that made it different somehow. Again, many thanks for your help. August

Easy to understand his confusion if his rifle is one of the Colts marked 223 on the receiver. He may not have noticed the barrel marked 556. GH

Not really since a search would have revealed that Colt chambers their stuff in 5.56 (especially stuff in the 6920, 6933, 6940 lines) and it would have been found using that search feature.
