AR-10 comparison thread? Good, Bad, and Ugly?

I have been looking at the Knights EM and EMC. Then I started looking at the competition. With all the options out there, I’m wondering if I’m starting to over think things and began looking for a comparison chart like we have for the AR-15’s.

It looks like most of the more favorably viewed brands are all generally a Knights pattern which takes me back to the EM and EMC. What does the extra money get me over a GAP AR-10, LMT, Larue, etc.? Or maybe an FN SCAR-H?

I want something compact and light enough to pop feral hogs with my suppressor but, still capable of respectable long distance target work (600+ yards). If my search skills have failed me, please point me in the right direction. Thanks!

SR25’s are not AR10’s.

What the KAC offers over the competition is a lighter package while maintaining a barrel that is not light weight. The LaRue OBR and LMT MWS are both close to 10LBS without adding any optics or mags. The EMC is a bit over 8lbs in stock trim. I owned an MWS before my EMC and once loaded with an 1-4X optic, light, sling, and loaded mag the weight was around 13lbs.

Also the MWS recoil was much more stout than the EMC. It has a shorter gas system length yet when I would take a shot the gun would recoil completely off the target, and I would go home with a sore shoulder. I shot a friends EMC side by side, and the EMC shot so much smoother and with less recoil I sold my MWS within a week and bought an EMC. I even tried a BABC on the MWS, and it helped some with the muzzle movement but even with the stock flash hider on the EMC it still shot smoother than the MWS with BABC, and weighs at least a 1LB+ less.

But the EMC is also twice as pricey as a base MWS and 2k more than an OBR. Ive fired the OBR informally at the range and such. Im not such a fan of the raised top rail but at 2k less than the EMC thats most of the way there to an optic like a Schmidt and Bender 3-12.

If you want a gun in the same weight class as the EMC you have the Predatar 7.62 or SCARh. The Predatar comes with a very thin barrel which I do not think would hold the same accuracy as the EMC over the same course of fire. The SCAR, to me, is a battle rifle whereas the EMC is a compact M110 if that makes sense. A DMR type gun not a blaster.

If you want a blaster the SCAR of even a FAL would be better suited to your needs. 308 guns are not guns you can shoot like an AR and expect the same parts life or barrel longevity. Not to mention the EMC is tuned to US mil spec ammo, and isn’t expected to be reliable with 2nd rate ammunition. A FAL has the adjustable gas block to digest the crappiest ammo around.

Ive got ~3400rds through my EMC and its been a great gun for me. Ive shot it mostly from 250-750 yards and have kept up with the bolt gun guys accuracy wise and beat them speed wise.

I was going to say just do a search using “Belmont31R” and “MWS” and “EMC” as your parameters and you’d get lots of comparison info.

I’m not looking for a high volume blaster. I’m want something competitive with a top notch bolt action rifle that is semi-auto. I’ve got other blaster candidates.

Oh, and thanks for the weight insight. I’ve got enough heavy rifles … what was I thinking …

Is this some sort of inside joke?

Belmont31R has some interesting posts but, none I saw were relevant to my questions.

The other two didn’t really offer a lot of direct comparisons along with other singular search terms.
