I’m coming off of shift work this weekend and spent a good part of the early morning hours catching up on my reading. I’ve noticed a lot of scorn for some of the less expensive AR brands and their buyers.
I’m not trying to say that all AR’s are created equal or that all shooters have the same technical knowledge. Let’s get that straight before the hissy fits start.
What I’m getting at is that not everyone needs or can afford a Colt, BCM, etc. I’d rather have the absolute best firearms, tv’s, autos, motorcycles, etc that they make but everything is a balance. What’s the most you can afford for what you/I are planning to use it for. Most AR’s buyers are getting a range toy, safe queen or conversation piece. A Del-ton will work great for them when they take it out to the range for their yearly shooting. Not everyone shoots matches or uses a carbine for home defense. Different strokes for different folks.
I have two points. The first is that the less expensive brands help hold down prices on the top tier manufacturers. I believe that there is a limit on how high Colt and other manufacturers will go above Stag, DTI, etc. After a certain point that Stag starts looking better and better. Price a steak high enough and hamburger starts looking pretty good. Raise the prices even more and even Spam looks reasonable. I am speaking of the casual shooter, collecter and not of those that are expecting to bet their life on their firearm.
My second point deals with those that buy Bushmasters, Stags, S&W, etc.
They are a large group. They are gun owners, specificaly “Assault Weapon” owners. I would expect that most vote, worry about bans and worry anti gun politicians. Now these owners of lower tier AR’s may not be as knowledgable as some and may not shoot as much as others but they have huge numbers on their side and I wonder if we’d have another “Assault Weapon” ban if they didn’t exist.
Just something to think about when looking at the guy shooting the Oly next to you.
“Assault Weapon”
Every time you use this out of context ~ you give the “anti’s” reason to tie in normal weapons with their view of an evil concept.
Just be careful.
