Switched up one of my ARs and dropped in a Ciener kit. Added the SWR Spectre, hoping it will run on subsonics. All I could get a hold of are SK brand (German?) so we’ll see. Tempted to run Aguila SSS ammo through it, but the SWR folks say “No” officially on 1:16" barrels and they’re still holding that even a 1:9" barrel is a no-go. I hope they do some testing and switch up their views soon. Until then, here you go! Think it will run, or is it going to hate the SK Subsonics?
I’m assuming that they are concerned about stability/baffle strikes from the long bullet?
If you just want something subsonic, try the CCI “Standard Velocity” 40 grain LRN load (blue box). I cannot remember having one ever crack supersonic on any of my rifles.
What type and twist of barrel?
The SSS are overly long and really take about a 1:9 twist rimfire barrel to stabilize them properly.
Make sure you are using a rounded hammer. Notched ones don’t always get along with rimfire conversions. Not to mention that .22lr autoloaders can be finicky anyway. Also, no real reason to start with the suppressor on.
I would also take along some standard and high velocity ammo to check function.
Yeah, I assume they think there are issues with shooting the 60gr bullet out of 1:16" twist rifles. This one is a 1:7" DD barrel. Makes sense - with the 60 gr being so much longer, any wobble will have a greater chance of causing baffle strikes as compared with a 36 to 40 gr bullet.

Took this thing to the range today, and it ran perfectly! The SK ammo has what seems like a lot of lube on them, but it didn’t get gummed up or anything. I tried a couple different brands, and it was very interesting to see how much difference subsonic ammo made. The supersonic crack of the fast stuff was much louder, as expected. Time to invest in a couple bricks of CCI standard velocity!
