Fifteen years ago, a friend of mine bought a SigPro 2340. It’s the pistol that got me into pistols, although my actual purchase was a G22.
I had been thinking recently that adding this pistol in 9mm- which used to be the 2009, I guess- would be nice.
Further research indicates that these models are long gone and that the SP2022 is the 9MM version of the old SigPro. Any feedback?
Holster availability was never as prevalent as other manufacturers’ and models, but that’s really about the only downside I’ve personally heard. Everyone I’ve known who has one likes them a lot, and rate well for accuracy/durability/weight/ergonomics/parts replacement/magazine availability. I never could figure out why they haven’t been more popular, especially since the design predates the P250, which soured Sig’s (heh) name in the polymer market.
Got two, love both of them. One in .40 and one in 9mm. Have shot the hell out of both of them without a minutes trouble with either. Accuracy is good, I like the trigger and I really like the feel of them, and for the price I don’t really have anything bad to say about them. As mentioned above parts and mags are readily available, and there is a threaded 9mm barrel that’s on my list. As far as a holster I like the Alien Gear I got for mine.

I’d recommend one to anyone in the market for a reliable sub $500 pistol.
ETA: You can get them with 2 mags and the Sig holster that comes with it, is nothing special but it works. The grip inserts that come with them… I honestly can’t tell much of a difference between them as far as changing the grip size, but I have pretty large hands anyway.

That’s where I plan on ordering the threaded barrel from, along with other replacement parts to have on hand. I have good friend that has purchased a lot from them, a good place to buy from.
I don’t own one, but we have one on the range at the shop I work at and I have fondled/shot several. Nothing wrong with them, and I wouldn’t have an issue with owning one. Don’t see a lot of them brought in by customers.
I’ve decided to get one as soon as I can find one without the stainless slide or tacpac. One local shop has .40’s for a decent price, but I’d prefer the nine at this time.
I LOVE my 9mm sp2022. I bought it new for $349.99 from PSA and prefer it to any of the guns I own in the classic p-series lineup that cost me twice as much. I sing its praises to anyone that asks, LOL. You won’t find a better factory DA/SA trigger in any pistol at any price point.
Are they basically polymer framed P229s?
Essentially. They’re a good bit lighter and have a much better trigger however. The slide/barrel length falls somewhere in between a 226 and 229 but the grip is about the same height as a 229. If you swap the factory pinky rest baseplates for flat baseplates it is shorter In height than a p229 (I did that with all of my 2022 mags and still have all my fingers on the grip). Also it comes with different grip modules that allow you to fit the grip to your hand.
Do they take different mags?
That’s the one weird thing… the mag body is the same between a 2022 and a p229, but the mag catch is cut in a different location, so p229 mags won’t work unless you teacup the gun and physically hold them in the magwell (I’ve done this to test the function before and it works fine). The baseplates are interchangeable and either baseplate will work with either gun (including p229 +2 baseplates) Idk why they put the mag catch in a different spot. I have both guns and it would be nice if they were interchangeable.
Nice gun especially for the price point. The lack of mag compatibility was definitely an epic failure however
iirc, there is a similar situation when wanting to use a beretta mag in a taurus (p/pt92)?
The mag release were basically in the same place but one was bigger. I thought a beretta mag could be made to work with a dremel but taurus mags were available so I just got those.

There are mec gar mags without the “hook” type base plate but they arent much cheaper and I’d rather have the hook if its a matter of the price of lunch.
I would highly recommend the SP2022 , it is a highly dependable & accurate gun. I use Armscor 124gr factory loads for target practice & have not had any failure to fire , failure to eject or stove pipes. I also own a Sig P226 & P250, they all have their own characteristics but they are all very well made. I’m sure you’ll enjoy owning the SP2022.
I remember CDNN having mags for the Sig 2022 for around $35 a while back. Never bought any, because while I like the 2022(Found them to be very easy to shoot and at one point they were damn cheap) I just never invested in one. They appear to only have factory 2022 mags in .40 in standard cap listed at the at the moment, but the price is $35. Neutered 9mm mags at actually more :blink: But they do have 17 round Mec gars for $33 if anyone cares.
For $7 more I’d buy the actual “SIG” branded mag. Personally.
I wonder if those 17rndr’s stick out obnoxiously below the magwell? Im not a big fan of that. Especially trying to conceal/deploy it.
After I bought the sp2023 I was looking at the old prices. It must be a good gun. Usually junk doesnt hold its value and I never seen it go up in value like this sig has
I have a 17 rd mecgar mag. It sticks out no more than the stock 15 round mag does, but it sticks out the whole way back rather than just at the front and tapering towards the rear.
Fwiw I have flat floorplates on my stock sig mags instead of the extended pinky rest style and still have plenty of space for my fingers on the grip. I am actually not sure why the 2022 ships with the pinky rest floorplates - the grip has at least as much room as my glock 19.
MECGAR is SIG OEM for almost all of their magazines. If they are marked “Made in Italy”, they are MECGAR made for SIG. Made in the USA means Checkmate.
Until at least a couple of years ago SIG Germany still made magazines, but they didn’t get over to the US very often and were only found on import SIGs (usually). That may still be the case but I’m not sure.
So if you want to pay $7 more for the magazine MECGAR made, then stamped SIGSAUER on or $7 less for the one MECGAR made then stamped MECGAR, it’s up to you. Bonus that the MECGAR branded ones are often improved with a better follower that allows 1-2 more rds.
