I am building a very inexpensive HD pump shotgun using an almost NIB “New Haven by Mossberg 600A” (department store 500) that I just picked up for $150 and some parts I have laying around.
My question revolves around the front sight. I will be having the 24" barrel cut to 18.25" or 18.5" and a front sight installed. I had originally intended to have a brass bead installed and use one of the XS Sights Big Dot sights that epoxies on since I have used one in the past and only want a tritium front bead (NO ghost rings, rifle sights, or RDS for this one). Then I came across these:
Since I have to have the barrel drilled and tapped anyway, there’s no reason I can’t use one of these. However, I have no experience with either of them. I tried searching but didn’t have any luck so is there anyone out there who has used one or both that can give me some feedback?
I tried a similar bead years ago and didn’t like it because of it’s size. Too bulky for me. You might want to check with the smith doing the work. The barrel wall may not be thick enough to accept a threaded bead. Many brass beads are pressed in. The ones you are looking at are typically installed on ribbed barrels. GH
