Anyone use the American Defense "HIGH" mount for their scope over the standard one?

So I am running a PA 4-14X scope on my AR with an STR stock.

I have it in a American Defense Recon scope mount … https://www.primaryarms.com/American_Defense_ADRECON_30MM_p/ad-recon-30.htm

BUT I have a hell of a time laying my cheek on the stock and seeing through the scope. I end up having to pull down my safety glasses and take off my hat cause it hits the scope and I have to push my face so far sideways on the stock just to be lined up with the center of the scope lens I end up looking at the top frame of my shooting glasses so I pull them down on the bridge of my nose out of the wa just to be able to see. Plus I have to angle my head so far sideways to get it lower that my earmuffs hit up on the stock and I have to pull the right earmuff up real high on my ear to clear the stock enough as well.

Really uncomfortable when using the scope due to all of this … and the PA scope kinda doesn’t help much with a rough eye relief and a Real Tight spot you have to be sitting in to get a full open frame when shooting at 16X

The specs say the regular mount is 1.47" central height … and the “High” mount is 1.93" central height

So it seems this would sit the center of the lens just about almost 1/2" higher

My Question is … Has anyone had this issue and found relief when sighting down the scope with a “High” scope mount over the regular???

Jaxman7 has been using the H mount for a while and recommended it so I gave it a try and I love it. It’s close to a lower 1/3 co-witness height which is what my red dots are. A local 3 gun shooter who is nationally ranked also uses the H.

I like the 1.93 myself, and have used both. I had the Larue high, same height as the ADM. I wish Bobro made one.

Hmmm … now I’m starting to think I may be on to something here

The standard mount is just a touch low like I said … I would really like a better look down the pipe of the scope

So you guys think the H version is really the way to go for the AR platform and a long range scope?

What is is you love about the High version as opposed to the basic one you were using before?

If a thousand people love the H that doesn’t mean it will work for you. Everyone is built differently. Before I spent $180 to find out the H is too high I would get one of those cheap Chinese 1/2" risers. I think the normal 1.5" mounts are too high… like said, everyone is different.

I got rid of my H mount for a standard height version. I used it on a 1-4 Vortex. I didnt like the change in my holdovers at close range. I found it to be uncomfortable when shooting prone.

I say try it. If it doesnt work for you put it on the EE.

So I did a little testing today

The issue is ONLY the Earmuffs

I have a VERY thin set of Peltor Tactical 100 electronic earmuffs but that still does not help, even using the HL Sports is just as bad if not worse.

When I take them off my cheek is nice and flush with the stock and I see down the pipe of the scope with my shooting glasses on just fine.

How is everyone using earmuffs and still using an AR with a standard 1.50" scope mount?

I think if were higher the only thing that would help is bring my earmuff further away from the stock … but I like the way it feels and looks with the standard mount I have now Without the earmuffs on.

The simple solution is earplugs … but those do not give the type of protection I want when out shooting at the range.

My AR and many others shooting under that long covered bench line at the range gets loud and just using even good earplugs are not enough. (I use foam plugs AND the earmuffs actually now)
