I have a chrome bolt (CMT) that has been lying around for a while and was wondering if I should use it for my next build. I have been thinking about selling it to get a BCM bolt but well see. Its not MP tested just a plain ol chrome bolt marked CM on it for CMT. Anyone have any experience with these bolts and what do yall think about them as far as being dependable. By the way my other bcg is a S/A LMT which I am using in my LMT defender (14.5 upper). This one will go in my 16" LMT upper with BCM carrier.
I use YOUNG NM crome carriers are they are very nice. Clean up really easy but I use a CMT bolt in it. I do not know if this is true or not, but I read somehwere that crome bolts will get pitting in them.
I had a GI chrome bolt for years in a parts gun I built, it worked fine and was particularly easy to clean. I finally gave it to a fiend of mine who had a M16 he used it for a long time and eventually killed it. I don’t think there is any reason not to use one but I wouldn’t go out of my way to get one unless I was doing a retro build again. If you could sell it and get a BCM then go for it.
I use a KAC bolt and bolt carrier assembly from a SR-15 match rifle in my NRA service rifle (with Slip 2000). It seems to be able to go for much longer before any carbon build up appears. Also at the end of a day of practice or competition, it wipes off clean with out the work that my Colt duty rifle bolt normally takes.
I am ordering a YM chrome bolt and bolt carrier group for another rifle.
I bought a complete LMT upper w/ LMT BCG from G&R Tactical in 2004/2005, and it came with a chromed bolt.
That particular bolt probably has only 2000 to 3000 rounds on it, but no issues.
