Anyone seen or try these yet. Would make great plinking ammo. I saw 1000 rds of milsurp for $179 for 1000 which is an awesome deal compared to 5.56. $109 for 500 wolf
They arent out quite yet, supposedly they will start shipping within a week or two. I’ll post on here once I get mine and try it out.
You can still get ammo for around $120 per 1080 from Aimsurplus and rguns.
Frankly I am more interested in the 5.45 upper over a .22 LR upper for high-volume training purposes and general plinking.
I know this has been discussed before, but is the supply source for 5.45 sustainable?
$100 per case Bulgarian surplus? No. $200 per case Wolf? Yes, well as sustainable as any other ammo out there anyway.

What type of magazine do these use ? Standard AR Mag ? Any special parts. I ask because at the reasonable cost of ammo this would be a good shooter for practice.

I have checked 5.45 on GI mags and PMags and it’s a no go.

I have a lower and rail standing by for this. It will become by new training setup so I won’t have to dip into my 5.56 stash.
Aim Surplus is selling corrosive Bulgarian for $119 for 1080 rounds.
I know coming from me this may sound biased, but… I’d spend the money on a 5.45mm AK and some magazines. Probably for the price of that upper you can find a WASR or SAR-2 or a built Bulgy kit and very reliable sturdy combloc mags. Learn a little about that threat weapon system and make the most of the cheap ammo right now!
Well this is certianly interesting. I will be watching for future developments, and resolution of the mag issue.
Might look into it. I have a Polish Tantal sidefolder and several K rounds of 7N1 surplus ammo in spam cans. The Wolf ammo is heavier, 70 gr vs 50 gr. Another source for the the 5.45 ammo is Eric the Ammoman (ammoman. com), he seems to have full crates of the stuff. If you buy a full crate you get the BFCO (Big F****** Can Opener) with it, lol. For those who don’t know the 7N1 ammo is hollow tipped to induce tumbling and has a steel jacket and core for light armour penetration. It is also quite corrosive so clean after you shoot. My tantal has chromed bore so it is a little resistant to this. Would be nice to have a common ammo for several guns.
I have been down that road and as much as AKs intrigue me, I’ve decided they’re just not for me. I can’t come to grips with the inherent flaws of the platform enough to justify keeping one in my safe.
I explained it to a friend the other day like this: if I wanted a gun that was hard to shoot and had a great rep, I may as well buy a Mauser.
But that’s me.

i like the idea of a 545x39 a r . keep this in mind as time will tell. if you are inclined to buy one i think it would be a good idea to stock up on cheap ammo now. you all should know how business works demand goes up sooo the people selling this cheap ammo will take advantage of it` s new found popularity and bend over shooters we got something you like and want. comprende K Y ?
Interesting but isn’t the cheap surplus ammo all corrosive. How will that work with a direct gas system? You will need to completely clean the entire gas system including the gas tube.
Not all 5.45 is corrosive. If Wolf .223 works in an AR, then I suppose that the 5.45 would as well.
Templar brought this up a while back - I’m not sure anybody really knows yet… one of the reasons I advised a little prudence before a purchase…
