That was the whole point of the movie. IN fact if you look at interviews with the director this was really a movie that went after the 30 year old mall ninjas in their mom’s basement. By went after I mean savaged them. If you watch it with that knowledge, that its meant to savage those losers then it takes on a whole new meaning.
I enjoyed Sucker Punch a surprising amount. I went to see it on a lark, expecting nothing more than gratuitous hot chicks and violence. I found myself really enjoying the storyline. Yes, it’s depressing. Yes, it’s got that Zack Snyder slow-mo cinematography. But I found it visually impressive, and I’d rather watch movies about girls fighting and dying for their freedom than some shit like Twilight.
OK, I just finished checking out Watchmen.
I have a love/hate thing going with this movie, which usually means it’s better than 95% of the other movies which all suck.
I had a really difficult time with the counterfactual history / alternate reality because they chose to set it in the recent past during the 1980s. That took a slight moment of adjustment, but they eventually established it well enough that it sold.
I hated that the most interesting guy, Rorschach, had such an incredibly stupid character persona. It was like a last string Batman evil villain. And of course the main character Dr. Manhattan was easily the most boring and uninteresting followed closely be Ozymandias as the second most boring.
The genesis of “masked super heroes” was better than most comics come to life on the big screen and the notion of a second generation was probably the most interesting. This gave us a chance to see what became of the freshman class even if some only existed to establish a platform of murders.
Not really crazy about the duality of the masked super heroes, especially with regards to the darker sides of the Comedian (and what a fucking stupid super hero persona that is).
And of course the greatest letdown was the anti climatic “greater good” plot construct of the end of the film. It almost managed to take away everything good that the film and story had developed to up until that point.
Add in the goofy shit like the multi term President Nixon (would have actually been much better with Kennedy as President for several terms and being forced to Defcon One), the Laurie Jupiter / Dr. Manhattan pseduo inter racial affair and any entity as intelligent / enlightened as Dr. Manhattan would certainly know if he was capable of causing cancer in others so he wouldn’t have fallen victim to the setup. It all just takes away from what could have been a truly remarkable film that obviously had a great deal of thought put into it.
Don’t forget the constant Blue Dong.
You would think as highly advanced as he was, he would put on some damn draws.
I think you would enjoy the graphic novel quite a bit. There is a reason it is one of the most critically acclaimed pieces ever made. The movie, I thought was very good, but could have been better. I’m sure you can thank Hollywood for that one.

I really didn’t like watchman But liked sucker punch Bought the Blu ray for the extended version the movie was so-so but I like the music and the German steam punk scenes .

For some reason I really don’t care for fiction when it comes to books. I have only enjoyed a few such as “Point of Impact” and some Clancey novels. But for the most part I tend to spend quite a bit of time reading a book (due to a habit of constantly referencing back and re reading earlier parts) and I typically read more than one at a time (right now I have 6 that I’m in the middle of depending upon what I feel like reading) and usually about a dozen waiting to be started.
I have of course also read Unintended Consequences and did enjoy that one, but that was mostly for the historical parts of the book. While I enjoy escapism in films (I love sci fi, horror and other genres) it is probably my least favorite when it comes to books. I tend to read to learn, not to be entertained. Conversely, while I can read Collector Grade Publication books about the history of a given firearms system I have a limit when it comes to watching TV shows on the same topic.
It feels wrong to not mention The Crow in a thread discussing graphic novel to film adaptations. Some parts are cheesy by today standards, but the soundtrack makes it one of my top picks.
I loved The Crow because in addition to Brandon Lee it is one of the closest things to a “real” Batman movie that has ever existed.
Big time dittos on that. I have avoided that stupid cliche movie for that very reason. I could predict the entire theme of the film from one preview and have no desire to have my intelligence insulted with an emotionally manipulative dramitization of the liberal world-view.

Yes I saw Sucker Punch and liked it. I especially liked the whole Japanimation-style sequence with the Samaurai demon with the minigun. I thought it was well-done. As for some of the other parts where the other chicks are running around, not nearlhy as good as the main gal, in my opinion.
I agree. Beyond looking pretty and shooting guns they couldn’t do much. I also thought Scott Glen was very effective in his role. He was what Carradine tried to be in Kill Bill.
I have always loved The Crow, and the graphic novel is pretty good, as well.
Not a graphic novel adaptation, but it has Brandon Lee in it: have you seen Showdown in Little Tokyo? Classic early 90s MA movie.
Great flick with some memorable quotes: “Should have started earlier. it would have helped your form.”
Yeah I saw it, but I always liked Rapid Fire more. Showdown was hampered by the fact that Lundgren really wasn’t as skilled a Lee when it came to martial arts (despite his 3rd dan and Euro champion status) but was in the role of one who is superior to Lee in skill level.

I started Taking JKD (Jeet Kune DO) because of my love for Bruce Lee Movies from the 70’s as a Kid I was Lucky enough to go to a seminar which I got to train with Jesse Clover One of Bruce Lee’s First Students.
It was a Honor to meet and train with Him ,we were doing some trapping and grappling training and Had Jesse Come up and work with me :eek:to think this man trained with Bruce Lee and Now I am it was surreal .it was well worth the Money I had My picture taken with him But I could not tell you what happen to it I so wish I had it today. he was so powerful in his moves .
I follow Brandon as well and freaked the hell out when he was killed on set of the crow .
I wish his daughter would have been more active in movies she was good too

As for Shannon, I personally wish she’d do less. Her hosting WMAC Masters (1995) presented WWF quality martial arts as some kind of genuine competition. Her production of the Chinese mini series The Legend of Bruce Lee (2008) resulted in a complete travesty that actually made her father look like some kind of jackass.
Somebody really needs to make her stop pimping the Lee family name. Thankfully Robert Lee helped bring about what may be the best Bruce Lee biopic ever made Bruce Lee, My Brother (2010). Ironically it contains almost no martial arts.

I loved Carradine in Kill Bill, and I also loved the newer Batman movies.

I didn’t know his daughter did that Bruce Lee was a great man I haven’t been training in over 15 years now i wish i would have it did help a lot during combative training in the Military .But since my injury I can’t do anything much anymore But i still like to trap and grapple
