I just bought a pair of MSA Sordin Supreme PRO-X’s last week from SRS Tactical and tried them out at the range on Friday. I left a little disappointed and with my ears ringing, and all that I took was my M&P9 and Ruger MKIII. Anyone have any ideas as why? I tried a couple different settings and even turned them off all together and the 9mm was still considerably louder then with just plain old foam plugs. I seem to be getting a good seal around my ears, and even have the Gel ear pieces installed (I installed them seemed pretty staight forward). Any advice and or help greatly appreciated.
In my opinion they are better suited as an outdoor range ear muff. You could always try and double up with some surefires and sordins if it bothers you.
I agree, they’re great for outdoor shooting but when I shoot inside I use some foamies as well.
Also, get the gel ear pads as they’re more comfortable and create a better seal.

Indoors, I wear foamies or Surefire earplugs under the muffs, regardless of manufacturer. There’s just too much noise bouncing off of walls and such to not do so.
Wearing electronics over plugs provides superior protection while allowing you to turn the volume up just high enough to hear stuff you otherwise would not with plugs alone.
Outdoors, as the other gents said, it’s pretty unusual for electronics to not be enough, but you can still wear plugs to compensate and still have a better chance of hearing ambient noise when the E-pro doesn’t cut off the sound of the guns.
I read his post assuming that it was an indoor range. I used mine for the first time at an indoor range, since then I put them down to the lowest setting and it’s comfortable for me inside. Outside I crank them up all the way and have no issues.
I was at an outdoor range, although it has a roof over the staging and shooter positions. I was reading through the manual at work last nite and read they only reduce sound levels by 18 dB’s, I then looked at the box of foam plugs I use at work and they state a drop of 30dB’s. Maybe I was exspecting too much, I do have the gel ear pads installed and do think I’m getting a good seal. It’s not that the noise “bothers” me, it’s the fact of my ears ringing, which I would think indicates damaging noise levels. I will try this week if no one else is there, shooting from in front of the shooters positions so I’m not under the roof and see how that is. You guys are using them outdoors without foam plugs with no issues?
Yes. I used mine for the first time in a class a few weeks ago and I had no issues and that was with shooters on both sides of me.
Maybe it is the roof over the shooters positions causing the issues. Have you tried them indoors? Correct me if I’m wrong, the electronics are just for the mics, and not sound canceling?
Correct. There is no active noise canceling, just ambient noise amplification with the cutoff at high levels.

When I took an EAG class a few students were running these and they had a kind of sweat guard that went over the ear cups. Is this something that comes with these or can it be found elsewhere?
To keep them low profile, they only have a passive 18 dB NRR. That’s simply not enough for indoor shooting without “foam” backups.
Outdoors is not an issue, but even then, if I get stuck to the muzzlebrake twins, I usually double up too.
