9MM 1911 seems like such a terrible idea for a critical duty firearm, but a lot of fun if you’re the type that abhors anything ‘stock’.
I have no experience with a 9mm 1911, but I’ve shot a 45 ACP 1911 for a number of years. It’s my favorite handgun.
As a 1911 shooter, let me suggest that you give the Walther PPQ a try. With the exception of the slide release, the PPQ is the first striker fired handgun that felt like a natural transition from the 1911. The problem with the PPQ slide release is that it’s a bit long and easy to hold down with the thumb, preventing the slide from locking back on the last shot.
I know the PPQ isn’t a 1911 9mm like you’re asking about, but it’s a solid, reliable handgun and I can go from 1911 to PPQ without a thought
I have been thinking about the EMP myself in 9mm. I have only compared sizes to the Sig 238 and 938. The EMP isn’t much bigger than the latter, and would be much more comfortable to shoot. My only concern would be shooting HP ammo. I have made it a point of habit to polish all my feed ramps but didn’t think about the breach face. I will have to do more research and see if I can rent one of these at a local range to see how I like it while firing.
The EMP is a great pistol. I have almost bought one twice now. It has one design flaw that kept me from buying it both times. As a concealed carry piece when I was wanting to carry a 1911, the grip is too long. It is almost a reverse CCO style pistol with an officer slide on a commander grip which doesn’t make sense. The grip is the hardest part to conceal and that is the longest part of the firearm.
I did not try any of the flash fit magazines from Logman.
Compared to SIG938, the EMP is a much smoother shooter and much more manageable recoil impulse.
Nah…I pretty much am of the mind that the 45ACP is one of the big draws to the 1911 platform.
I have a Hi-Power and Glocks for launching the 9mm round and they do the task well enough! LOL
Buying a 9mm 1911 is sort of like buying a V6 Mustang if you ask me.
Sounds like from a functioning point of view one would be better off going with the .38Super as it has about the same OAL length as the .45ACP the 1911 was designed for. There is that semi-rime John Browning put on the Super which might cause functioning issues. Maybe I’m over analyzing this and should just stay with the .45ACP for carry. 
it’s not like I’m going to experience that much arthritic pain from even firing two magazines through my DW CCO in occasional practice or even in self defense.
Its called a Browning hi power. I have never seen a 1911 in 9mm run reliably.
Funny you should mention the Browning P-35. It was my first carry pistol. I wanted a Lightweight Commander like Col. Cooper suggested, but couldn’t find one. Still have it and can only remember one malfunction with it. Maybe I should buy a FEG and fix it up for carry. Some good prices on them right now. Wish AIMS would get more in.

I own a full size 9mm Springfield Armory RO 1911 and it had a few quirks the first 300 rounds or so. During the last 4,000 rounds I have had very few problems with reloads and zero problems with factory ammunition. I am using SA and Mec-Gar mags. If not for the weight, I would carry it more often during cold weather.
I own and shoot a Sig X5 Tactical 9mm. It what I consider a 9mm 2011, that run. It is the easiest to shoot and accurate pistol I own. I have installed Dawson FO sights on it as well. I just put another 100 rounds thru it tonight.
If those that wanted a 9mm 1911 got to handle and shoot a properly set up Hi-Power…they’d probably forget all about the 9mm 1911.
I love my Hi-Power…a very under rated 9mm in this country.
Agreed. I have a 1911 in .45 ACP as my house gun. Great gun and 100% reliable. That being said, if I were looking for a single action in 9mm, it would be a High Power.

I would second this. Another good option is the CZ75B. I have one and its ergonomics are similar to a 1911 and I have no problem transitioning between the two pistols.

If you’re referring to hammer bite I know how you feel as I have that problem too. I use to wonder why someone doesn’t come out with replacement grips that would have an extension that came back beyond the and acting as a beavertail type grip safety. As another poster suggested a CZ-75 with it’s beavertail type tang might be a better solution.
I sometimes use a Wilson CQB Compact Custom 1911 in 9mm. It’s a great gun, but you do have to mess around a bit with the recoil spring to make it run 100%. They’re flat spring conversions do it for most people that I’ve been able to talk to. The downside, it’s a $3500 gun. The upside. It’s a really nice gun. 
Can you bobtail the EMP? I know you can round it somewhat but has anyone ever successfully bobtailed this gun? If it’s a commander frame grip size it shouldn’t be too hard.
