Anyone handled the Colt 6940?

Anybody on this board gotten a chance to shoot or at least inspect one of the new 6940’s? Searching around on the Net doesn’t turn up much more than over-hyped gunbroker listings and a few photos. How sensible a design is the monolithic rail (or semi-monolithic - more like VIS than LMT MRP, if I understand correctly)? Is it a mid- or carbine-length? Does it seem likely to uphold the “gold standard” reputation that the 6920 has built?

cheers

I handled one at the gunshop I normally loiter at. It was nice, the mono rail looks good on it, but I don’t think I would choose it over a $1600 6920 for my needs. To each their own.

there’s a nice review on TOS (compared to the 6920)
btw, its a carbine.

Looked over one at the Jax gunshow this weekend. Great looking rifle! It’s basically a 6920 with the mono upper. Dude wanted way to much for it 2579.00. I just laughed and wales to another little old lady that had a NIB 6920 for 1600. If you can find one for under 1800, I’d buy it…ATC

carbine length gas, folding front FSB, Matech rear BUIS. Pick up the next SWAT for a Pat Rogers article about it.

I like the rail, don’t like the front sight.

Everyone else has pretty much nailed it. It is not a monolithic upper like the MRP & the front sight is okay, personally I would have preferred a longer rail on it.

But I bought it because I thought it would be a good platform for a variable optic with a fold down front buis. Just got to pick the optic to go with it.

Friend used Pat’s T&E 6940 in our class last month. Good gun. It’s a colt with a mono upper…well, mostly mono. Bottom of the rail comes off for barrel work. Not a quick change like the MRP. Lighter than the MRP. Little meh on the sights.

FME, not netjunkies friend here but I shot Pat’s 6940 NIB @ our TX class, early March.
A touch over 1K rds. down range w/ zero issues & no cleaning, lube only per Pat.
I agree 100% w/ Rob’s above statement re. the rail & FFS. With Pat’s blessing I
replaced the COLT stock w/ my SOPMOD, added my BFG Redi-Mod, FUG & CSM single point.
Email me direct w/ any other questions (have additional thoughts) as I own numerous Colts

  • an MRP.
    YMMV & just my .02

Handled one today. Lighter than I thought it would be honestly. My only complaints were the sights. The front was ok but not great and I am not a big fan of the matech BUIS. It is functional but I would rather have a MBUS. In the current market I thought they were pretty well priced at 1899.00. Honestly I am tempted to see about selling my bushmaster and picking one up.

Scratch that. Selling a build I have an a completed lower. I want one of these bad.
