Might be interested on a 15 round M1911.
Not lately but a friend of mine owned one of the “gun rights” pistols, the Hi Cap. Unfortunately, I never got to shoot it. I did hold the gun and found that the thicker grip was just not for me. My friend had trouble with the gun, jams, FTE, FTF and sold it.
I don’t buy their stuff myself but I do know a few people who have owned them over the past 1-2 years.
Of the four or five people I can think of who’ve had them recently, one does not shoot much.
He is the only one remotely satisfied with his Para. Everyone else returned or sold theirs.
my youngest brother has a para 1911. (Not the hi cap, though)
Nothing but problems. jams, feed problems, you name it. My other bro and I got Rock Islands at the same time as the youngest bro got his Para. not a single problem with either
Within this past year, I bought one of the P1445 Gun Rights guns and had nothing but trouble. Failure to seat back into battery and failure to extract were the norm.
I had several double feeds but since the mags are proprietary, I couldn’t really mess with it too much to find out why.
I fired more than 600 rounds through it and had at least 30-40 problems. I ran the same ammo through my Nighthawk Hi-Cap and my STI and neither of them had an issue.
FWIW, skip the Para.
Good Luck,
Definitely avoid.
If firepower is what you want, then why not just get a Glock-21. On a 1911 flatform your better served with a single stack.
Or an FNP or an HK. The Paras were pretty attractive to me a few years ago, less so now. There are a lot more choices for a high cap 45 now.
This.
Is the one you are looking at new or used? The few new ones (only 2) I have handled lately well…their reliability would be questionable even for use as paperweight. The older ones weren’t to bad but there are still better choices today for hi-cap .45’s.
One of my friends bought a Para in 40 S&W for power factor and mag capacity for comp. He shot it frequently and had consistently experience problems with Fails to Feed, Jams, even had the barrel bushing break…in half. The internal geometry in those guns is horrible…on the trigger, on the barrel link, extractor etc. Not to mention they have MIM parts that often do not fit as a factory installed NIB gun and some even have finishes that are air soluble…bottom line, para IMHO isnt suitable to weigh down papers at the office.
Do what you wish with your money, but if it were me, I would save the money and buy elsewhere.
I agree. Way simpler and more reliable.
High capacity guns in 45 tend to get large really quick. The only hi-cap 45 I care for is the M&P45, an impressive pistol with growing aftermarket support.
I have a pre-ban P-13 and a Slim Hawg, (bought both new) both in .45. When the P-13 gets dirty it tends to catch the nose of the next round on the feed ramp causing a FTF. This only happens when using dirty ammo or if you shoot a large quanity of ammo and don’t take the time to wipe the feed ramp with your finger or a cloth. I’ve had no issues with the Slim Hawg. If I were in the market to buy another pistol it would be a Para Ordnance.
At the shop where I work,we stopped carrying ANY Para products not only because of QC issues but also because of customer service.(non-existent)
Personally,I owned one of the first P-14’s.
After I gutted it and replaced everything but the frame, slide and barrel,it ran just fine .
As has been posted, avoid at all cost.
