I just placed my first NFA order in about 4 years from them. I bought an Octane 9 HD2.
I was a little confused at first because when I ordered there was no place to put my FFL’s info, then I got the second email with the link to input it in their website. Do they let you know when they’ve processed the Form 3? My FFL knows the can is on its way, but does silencershop notify you along the way? It just seems so impersonal, but I’m new to the NFA game this decade.
Also, I own an AAC Pilot 2, M4-2000, 762SD, and now an Octane 9 along with 2 SBRs. I only own 9mm handguns. Since I like to throw a bunch of money into NFA stuff at once (getting 5 stamps at the same time was a great Christmas present) is there any other NFA stuff out there worth doing? I hate to be so broad, but I just want to waste some money and I don’t see the need for anymore SBR AR15s.
I’ve bought several cans from them in the last year. They don’t necessarily let you know the F3 is approved, but they do send an email when the can ships to local dealer. That’s usually within 1-3 days of when F3 was approved.
If you use the Silencer Shop Direct program, you get all kinds of updates, including when check is cashed so you can start looking at Pending dates.
A 9mm SBR is a lot of fun, especially with the Octane.
I don’t have any Form 3 experience with them, but all of my Form 4’s have been executed flawlessly for the most part. My last transaction was for a 9mm Osprey, and when I got the purchase confirmation receipt it had the serial number for an Octane. It was only an hour after purchase so it was cleared up quickly with no complication to the process. Their communication throughout the process has always been great, and I may not even own any NFA items if they didn’t make it so easy.
I actually went to their storefront to pickup an SBR not long ago, and was surprised how many customers go through that little place on a given day. I imagined those guys hanging out in the dark in front of their computers playing D&D or something, but they were very personable.
This is correct. I’m going through this process now and just recently got the email notification from Silencer Shop that the Form 3 was approved and would be shipped to my FFL. I’m just getting into the NFA stuff so I’m interested in responses to your last question as well.
Just in case anybody is interested, I did a quick write-up here to show how the SS Direct program works. It started either late last year or early this year, when EForms was working. While it’s faster to buy local without the F3, and possibly as cheap or cheaper if you have a LGS that will negotiate, it’s hard to think anybody makes it any easier. I have one transaction that includes can/stamp/transfer, provide my trust, and wait for the updates to roll through.
I bought one can from them before SSD was available, and three since then. I’ve gotten the order confirmation emails with serial number and the shipment emails on all of them, and then the three SSD cans have additional emails since SS is also handling the F4.
This is some comforting info, I too will be using SS next week.
This will be my first NFA purchase and it’s been extremely confusing but SS has answered many of my stupid questions without ever making me feel stupid for asking.
Your purchase will be as smooth as buying a beer. SS is a great company and I’ve used them several times. They update you with emails throughout the process and their CS is superb.
Yes, you need to buy a transferable fullauto. Macs are still reasonable in price ($5k’ish), are very modular, and have some neat history behind their development. MGs are also cool in that they appreciate (rather significantly) despite your using them. If you are not wanting to spend the scratch for a MG, consider an integrally suppressed Ruger 10/22, SBR SIG 553-2, SBR B&T TP-9, or SBR MP5K-PDW.
I’ve dealt with them a bunch this year. They have the best prices, best stock, and their service is top notch. I honestly don’t understand how they make any money.
