I’ve got the opportunity to go to a 5 day course in Kentucky next month, anyone ever been to one?
Yes indeed… the Tactical Tracking Operations School with David Scott Donelan… former Rhodesian SAS guy. If you can attend TTOS, go. I highly recommend it.

Thanks for the info, I’m interested to see how the whole idea of a tracker fits into current LE.
Where I came from and where I currently work the whole mindset is to set up a perimeter and call in K-9.
I feel that a properly trained and equipted tracker team if on scene quickly just might be hot on the trail or even have the runner in custody by the time K-9 arrives.
Hummm, interesting. K-9 gets hot, tired, he sits down and rests and doesn’t push it. A human… can push it.
Something to consider.

Properly trained trackers in the patrol ranks can and will make the difference. I took David’s first class in Hawaii, and his very first Level 2 tracking course. They have paid off in evidence gathering in dope cases, as well as auto theft and burgary cases. Proof is in the conviction.
I attended a SAR man tracking course way back in 1996 that was put on by the Kern Co. Sheriff’s Dept. in CA. Within a year I had used the training to track down a DUI suspect who fled the scene. Tracked her all the way to her house over a mile away. I have used the information in many theft investigatinos. Good info for any patrol officer.
I have attended 2 tracking schools through TLETA. Both were good classes. I have had the chance to use what I learned a couple of times on the job. It is a very valuable skill to have. Take the class and have fun. I may try to attend if I can work my schedule out.
TTOS has a great reputation. However, the TLETA courses would certainly cover your in-service requirement.
accidental post.
I attended a tracking class when I was a .mil. Very interesting subject matter. I personally liked it quite a bit and would jump at the chance to do more. As others have said, it will pay dividends in many ways. You won’t look at the ground the same again.
So Yasnevo, do you defeat the dog or the handler?? Don’t answer that!!! ![]()
