Anyone Checked Out The Colt Marine 1911...?

I still don’t have a 1911 with a rail. I was planning on getting a Series 70 since they started making them again but this one does look interesting.

There is one on Gunbroker, not worth anywhere near the $4,300 price of admission that it is going for.

Wasn’t really asking for “where to buy?”, I’m a FFL/SOT and can wait till one of my suppliers finally gets them in stock.

I was mostly asking if anyone had any “non sales pitch” information regarding them, was able to check them out at shot show or possibly even has some first hand range experience with them.

Of course being as how it’s kinda “new” I may have to wait to get some first hand feedback. Just heard about them today, looked them up and it has my interest.

I have seen some positive reviews in gun rags and on the net. A buddy of mine handled one at shot and said it was pretty nice. I have seen them at wholesalers for less then $2k, but of course they are listed as allocated. I am not a huge fan of the color, but it seems like a really solid pistol if you are looking for a rail gun. My only gripe is I could get two MC operators or Colt railguns for the price and with a 1911 2 is 1…

www.modernserviceweapons.com they just got one and Hilton and Tim are reviewing

If I were in the market for a 1911, that one would do nicely I think.

It has all the bells and whistles I’d want on a 1911.

I’m looking forward to your review, BigJoe.

I haven’t heard a single good thing about these guns; either in civilian or military hands.

I been thinking of getting my 1st 1911 & initially, it was gonna be a Delta Elite. When the M45 was introduced, I thought, “that’s the one”. I’m waiting/hoping for the price to come down. I’ve read a few magazine articles about it but I’m also interested in what others here have to say.

What issues have you heard?

Other than the very public exposure (google or TOS) of the poor performance in testing (and subsequent revamp to a dual recoil spring) for the Marines, I have the below from someone in the know whom I won’t name. Take it or leave it but I trust the guy.

Finish is sub par.

Small parts fitting

Accuracy

It just really seems like a Colt Rail Gun with Cerakote, a thicker dust cover, altered front slide serrations and a proprietary guide rod with double recoil spring at a premium price for having “US” on the side of it. Maybe I’m just frugal and the price freaks me out.

“Looks like a hit, shoots like shit” is not a successful sales jingle.

Colt will either solve those problems or watch this one wither on the vine. There are simply too many other semi-custom options available in this price range. Frankly, I hope they do. It’s a good lookin’ piece and I don’t own a Colt 1911.

I haven’t Googled it yet (only read a couple of mag articles) & I don’t frequent TOS. I have no reason not to take your word for it so that’s good info. Thanks

I’d just buy the Rock River on the Equipment Exchange here. Nice looking piece.

Colt getting that contract was obviously an inside deal from the word go.

The USMC had already been getting getting superb pistols from Springfield, then they had trials and ultimately adopted this POS.

Yay.

I saw this on the cover of a magazine sittin in a buddy’s truck.

Why the Mil would still be clinging on to the 1911 is beyond me. Get over the romance, boys!

I wouldn’t call them “superb” but I am happy that MARSOC also has G19s.

I have seem on other forums pictures of cracks in the slide on test samples. Colt claims they have fixed this. I also understand it’s a Series 80. Bet those parts disappear soon in the Marine’s 1911s’.

Thanks guys, sounds like I will be saving lots of money and just grabbing a Series 70.

Damn shame, even though I don’t carry a 1911 I would have liked to have one with a rail for that option. I was also finally warming up to the notion of a modern 1911. The idea of having another “military” 1911 also appealed to me.

Just get a regular black Rail Gun and use the money you save over buying the USMC pistol on night sights, a SureFire x300/x300U, magazines, and ammo. The USMC pistols are just going to be bought up by collector’s as safe queens.
