For me, the biggest personal hurdle in getting one is not the price, nor the barrel, but rather that I have never fired one. Money is not a problem, and people are already talking about modding the barrels on other forums.

If you have shot one, what is your opinion of it when compared to the M4, or the SCAR? For me, I am looking for better ergonomics as a lefty, and a bit more dependable than my trustworthy M4.
Most of the Staff and Mods here at M4C have had an opportunity to fire serial #1 Masada and the Massoud prototypes. The Masada was at our class in '08, the Massoud last year in '09.
Overall, very positive, with the caveat that the Masada that we shot had over 90K through it already and was on it’s third barrel.
The Massoud lit my fire a lot more than the Masada.
Like Katar said, the change in the charging handle location was a smart, and needed, design change.
I have not had a chance to fire the updated ACR.
Personally I hope that Remington LE versions will make it out to market like their 870P, 11/87P, and M700P police grade firearms do now.
I thought it was a good weapon, the feel is a little different to the way my M4’s are setup. My M4’s felt faster…
They’ve probably tweaked the gas system a bit, and done some more for flow control, and I’d again take our comments with the grain of salt that we were shooting a well worn example.
Maybe Rob Silvers or the Magpul guys can chime in…
Hopefully any aftermarket trigger group for an AR should work.
My take on the SCAR-L vs. the Masada…
I’ll be up front that I’ve had a lot more trigger time and experience with the military grade select fire SCAR MK.16, I’ve had the opportunity to visit FN DEVTECH and go through the armorer’s course.
I’ve said it before, but it’s not really a fair assessment to compare the two, the SCAR Mk.16 is a very mature system that has been put through hell repeatedly and came through it. It’s also a production rifle.
The Masada that we shot was a prototype, that had seen quite a bit of use.
I’d really like to get a chance to have the same hands on with the ACR that I had with the FN SCAR.
I’d take a Mk.16 over a Colt 6920, especially if extra barrels were available, but I surely don’t feel under armed with my Colt 6920.

I just got back from the 4th annual Silncer shoot(www.silencershoot.com). It was a blast with the biggest turn out ever(almost thousand people). The range was packed with light rain and t-storm,but it’s fun. I met couple guys who drove from Houston and Miami.
They’ve raised over $100K for the wounded warrior project by selling the raffle tickets. Over 20 vendors were on hand and display,show off their stuff.
Magpul got my vote for the most generous manufacturer to donated about 600 Pmags, stocks and accessories. Oh, I didn’t win anything again…
Remington which owned Bushmaster donated two ACR’s for raffle and auction to raise the money for the project. One of the ACR was auction out for $7,500.00. They have tw0 for us to shoot at $5.00 per 30 round mag of their ammo. It was nice of them for doing that considering the price of ammo at $0.45 per round. I’m soaking wet with the demo ACR while waiting for my turn to shoot. I’m sold after shooting this gun, easy to operate,easy to maintenance, light recoil and no gas blow back when shooting with silencer.
I know you want one and you will not disappoint. You are dead on about the ACR and it’s worth the wait. I was kind of “I won’t buy any gun until I see it and shoot it”. The ACR is one of the gun that I will get it for sure. It’s far better than the SCAR or FS2000 , imo. Only thing I notice is the weigh is a little bit heavier than regular AR-15 M4 type,but it’s help reduce the recoil. I have not problem with little extra weigh at all.
The ACR is a fun rifle to shoot. The controls are great. It has a very agile feel. I’ve shot both SCAR’s (Heavy and light, ~100rds or so total). They both felt bulky compared to the ACR/Massoud, but that depends on what rail you use on the ACR.
The recoil impulse on the Heavy is pretty stout (not just my opinion). This is possibly due in part to the massive carrier/op rod they have (which also limits their gas port placement, leading to a rifle length-ish barrel with a carbine length-ish gas system). I didn’t shoot the light enough to tell.
Both the heavy and light ran well, in my limited exposure, no malfunctions. The heavy will short stroke on the “suppressed” setting though.
Obviously I’m an insider, but I think I can give a fairly objective opinion.

One thing that struck me as interesting: when shooting suppressed (the Masada prototype) I caught a fair bit of gas in my face. Now this isn’t necessarily surprising to anyone with time behind several types of suppressed rifle, but sometimes the internet makes it sound like a gas piston eliminates this. Nothing further could be from the truth.
The only way to get rid of the blowback is to get a different can. I have a Gemtech Ti on the Massoud that doesn’t have any blowback noticeable on your face, other cans can only be shot with eye pro.
Drake had the smallest AAC can on that gun, the 416SD. Your observations are certainly accurate on that weapon with that can, but even the bigger M4-1000 and M4-2000 would cut this down some, or dramatically depending on what kind of dosage you received.
If you shoot my 10.5" COLT with the M4-1000 mod 06, you’d probably note a pretty fair difference between the two. With mine shooting more gas up your nose.
An AK-105 with a Gemtech HALO will blow gas out the hole in the back of the dust cover and into your face as well. One of the few times an aftermarket recoil buffer actually helps.
On very recent, new episodes of SWAT Magazine TV, as well as on the net, I’ve seen Magpul still advertising the Masada. Why is this? Why is Magpul still advertising the MASADA ???
