Hey all, I’m trying to get the wife to start regularly carrying, which I have tried in the past but without any luck. She’s had a gun that she’s carried occasionally before, but it was only in her purse/car/etc. I’d love for her to find something that she’s comfortably carrying on her body, but I’m not sure what might do it. I’m thinking she might do well with a G26 or a G43 in some kind of appendix rig, but who knows. Anybody got their wife seriously carrying?
Mine doesn’t leave the front door without it.

If you consider purse carrying serious then yes. She carries a G42 (maybe 43 soon) in a pj pocket holster in her purse everyday.
We live out in the mountains so I don’t harp on her anymore than this. If we were in the city or even suburbs I’d ride her harder for a better method. But as it stands now she has one every day…just in her purse not on her body.
When I lived in Philly my ex would cc a P3AT everyday iwb. Pretty sure the current girl would do the same under similar circumstances.
My wife does almost everyday.

My wife does almost everyday, although it’s purse carry, which I’m not a fan off. However, I’ll take what I can get when it comes to her carrying. Like the OP, I hope one day that she’ll be comfortable with on body carry.
Purse carry. Wears a duty belt all day at work and barely wears anything but yoga pants the rest of the time. I’m not a proponent of off body carry but it’s better than nothing. LC9s pro with CT laser, nice and thin, pretty easy to hit with.
Nope. My wife doesn’t care anything about learning anything about guns.
Me? I have a Glock or an H&K somewhere on my body pretty much at all times and my wife thinks I’m a dork.
I wouldn’t try to get her to carry if she’s not comfortable with it.
When I met my wife, she was almost anti-gun. She wasn’t really adamant about it, she just didn’t have any experience with firearms other than what she saw on the news / movies. Over time, it has come to the point that now she enjoys going to the range with me and is comfortable and even supportive of the fact that I carry.
She isn’t interested in carrying, but I did convince her to take the CCW permit course, get her permit and select a firearm (her choice of what is most comfortable) that would work for her. My reasoning is that even if she doesn’t want to carry at this time, there may come a time that something happens that makes her decide overnight that she wants to carry for protection.
This way, she has a legal permit, a comfortable, properly-sized holster and a reliable firearm that she has practiced with if her mind ever changes. But I would never pressure her to carry unless she makes that decision herself.
My wife carries a gun somtimes. A PPS in an OWB holster, or more commonly in her purse.
Personally, I think trying to talk anyone into carrying a gun is a loser and destined for failure. Your wife obviously doesn’t feel the threats you feel, and if she’s like my wife, you will never talk her into feeling them.
Not in complete disagreement but there also may come a time where it is the only chance she has. She might not get to decide overnight. This is why we carry after all.
Only true losers care about their women’s protection and safety. Jeez… you sure you’re on the right forum?
My girlfriend has a M&P9c in her night stand at her place. I’m honestly not even sure if it’s loaded. She doesn’t carry out of the house at all.
I’ve tried to get her to look in to various types of on body or purse carry and she has no interest. I’ve been shooting with her once, she can shoot well too.
I don’t leave the house with out my G19 or G43.
That’s not the point. If an individual, whoever they are, is not prepared to use a firearm to protect his or herself or anyone else, OR if they are not prepared to take a life if necessary, then they have no business carrying a firearm. The weapon would be more dangerous to them than to an adversary.
Everyone who can legally and competently posses and use a firearm should have the right to do so. That doesn’t mean that they should be required to do so.
Yes.
Took a small/light gun to get her there, DB9, terrible reputation, but she chose it, she’s comfortable with it and since warranty it’s been reliable.
She won’t dress around it. Got her a hybrid holster which she uses in casual attire, she purse carries with a kydex pocket holster when that won’t do.
ETA: I encouraged the practice and shooting in general but I never pressured her.
I should’ve clarified, my wife is a pretty proficient shooter, she’s been around guns for some time and is familiar with how to manipulate and shoot rifles and pistols. I am a LEO and she knows there are plenty of people out there who don’t like me, I think it could be as simple as finding her a set up that’s concealable and she’s comfortable with.
This can’t be emphasized enough. A person needs to be trained and have the mindset to perform an act of violence in a controlled manner while under a great deal of stress.
Well, then you should work on making more coherent points as this was nowhere in your initial post. Either way, I agree with this post and disagree with your first.
Agree that you can only persuade or push a woman (or anyone for that matter) so far and the rest has to come from within. I’ve never had to expend much effort persuading a GF to carry.
Especially not in a city.
I guess I don’t know what it’s like dating a woman who is “almost anti-gun” not dogging on your wife at all just clarifying the fact that I’m not sure what it’s like to be in your shoes.
My wife is pro-gun to the core. She spends hundreds of hours a year raising money for pro-2nd amendment causes. She doesn’t carry and I gave up trying to talk her into it 15 years ago. She has the mindset to kill and I have no doubt she’d use anything at hand to protect herself or even one of our kids (that are now adults). She just doesn’t see the benefit for the low amount of risk she perceives to have in her life. I’m not about to nag her about it.
My wife is pro-gun, has her CCW, taken the local Sheriff’s handgun course, etc. But, she only shoots a few times a year and has no desire to carry. I’m in the same boat as Doug. Here’s a website that may or may not help but it’s a site for women. http://www.corneredcat.com/contents/
Maybe it will help you but choosing to carry is a very personal decision/commitment.
This is similar to my wife’s views. The difference is that I feel pretty much the same way. I am likely to carry a gun far more often than she does, but I don’t carry very often, like her, based on perceived risk and need. So I rarely bug her about it.
