Posted this in the Training, feel free to move it, I am not “general discussion” worthy …yet ;).
There is a series on Biography with William Shatner, it was on last night. His guest was Bernie Goetz. For younger guys that may not remember who is was/ is, he shot 4 individuals on the NY Subway in 1984. It was a huge deal at the time, brought out the frustration the Nation had at the time with rampant crime and VERY restrictive handgun laws.
My takeaway from the show was an excellent description by Goetz about what happened during the shooting. A very detailed account of what happens when one is under great stress and takes action. His physical description of the fight or flight, the physiological reactions to the organic cocktail that gets dumped into the body, and how the mind moves from shot to shot. Nothing new, but he gave one of the best AARs of a shooting I have heard. It was a debacle as far as self defense principles are concerned, a bad shoot. Again, I took away what I could from it, some good lessons learned (both bad and good) as a case study.
Now if you saw the show you know he is absolutely unapologetic. Admirable. As an aside, the guy is bat shit crazy. His best friend is a squirrel he rescued. But other than that, he gave a helluva detailed account of what happened. Worth a look if you can find it.
