For a long time now US Navy sailors have worn baseball caps with their duty station or ship assignment embroidered on the front. It used to be these were always Navy Blue. Today, I see caps in red, yellow, green, bright blue, light blue, camouflage patterns like Woodland or Tiger Stripe, orange - many different colors.
Two questions for you:
What do these colors signify or stand for? I assume departments (e.g., red for firefighting, etc.).
What do the acronyms embroidered on these mean? MTT or STT, for example. My best guess for FPTT is "Force Protection Training Team, and ATTT = "Anti-Terrorism Training Team, etc. Am I correct?
The others I can’t guess.
Thanking you in advance for the professional insights.
The only command ball cap I have is from the Eisenhower, it was blue, from 2007. I don’t know when they went to other colors, but it’s CO discretion. So an entire ship might wear just red, another ship might have red assigned to firefighting, black to engineering, etc.
As for the acronyms, they’re different teams, but I don’t know them all.
A SWO or enlisted surface warfare might have a better answer, I was on a medical detachment.
Flight deck personnel have different colored shirts, but all ships have “command caps” unique to that ship. Well, now. Not so much in my day. In my day is pretty much all the blue caps.
