This is a mil spec/Colt type side sling adapter. Have herd before they can be a pain in the a$$. Don’t have many specific 'smith tools. Should I install or take it to my 'smith?
Give it a try. They do tend to be a PITA though (especially without a roll pin starter).

I installed my first one yesterday - give it a try!
Placing the mount on a table as shown acts as a third hand. I pressed on the opposite side of the mount with my palm, held the roll pin & punch with one hand. Once you get the roll pin started it’s gravy (just don’t slip) ![]()
hope this helps…
It should be delivered in a couple of days, I’ll see what I can can do. Wish I had more tools for this. Thanks, the photos may help a lot.
Anybody here know where I could get two of those for the M16A1 diameter barrel AKA an M16A1 M203 side sling adapter?
I have two lightweight barreled uppers that I would like to be able to put a Vickers sling on without having to mount a rail or use some kludge.
ProMag makes one that will work on .750 and .625 barrels.

here is one place to get it
I never had a problem moving mine around (Im a south law). I used a small hammer and a flat bladed screw driver (couldnt find my punches). It was a breeze. I just placed the flat blade against the pin, tapped the screw driver with the hammer and the pins popped out. I reversed the assembly and then drove the pins revers of how I popped em in there. Like I said, no problem.
You don’t even need a punch and hammer…just wrap the jaws of a pair of pliers with some tape, and clamp ![]()
Heavy Metal,
Ordered my side sling adapter from Bushmaster. They fit standard and heavy barrels. I’ve used these before and have had one on my BM M4. This one is for my new LMT.
Received and installed side sling adapter yesterday. What a piece of cake. My wife gave me a hand (two actually:D ). Wrapped barrel in a t-shirt and folded a small piece of cardboard over the FSB just in case I had missed a tap with my small hammer. No misses, no blemishes, job well done. May send wife to 'smith school.
