Hi folks, I’m a big fan of S&W autoloaders, specifically the M&P series. But when I had the chance to trade for this S&W K-Frame Model 15-3, I jumped on it. It’s the only revolver I own…for now. I’ve only had it out to the range a single time, but it really is a joy to shoot. The trigger is so smooth in DA and in SA all you have to do is think about pulling the trigger and it breaks (I exaggerate a bit here, but it is light and smooth, as well).
I’ve shot it with both FMJ and some +P defense loads. Just put in an order for several hundred “FBI Load” hollowpoints. I can’t wait to get some more range time in with this old girl.

I don´t shoot revolvers very often anymore, but occasionally I take this model 19-4 to the range and fire a couple of rounds to stay proficient with wheelguns. The grips are made by “Nill Griffe (Grips)” from Germany. They feel really good and I think they also look very nice on a blued revolver. K-Frames are my favorite revolvers. They have the perfect size and balance in my opinion.
It looks rather shiny in the first pic, but it has the standard deep blue finish. The second picture is closer to how it looks in reality.
grew up with wheel guns and you will not find a more inherently accurate production gun in a centerfire caliber than a smith and wesson revolver!
Most of mine will group about as tight at 50 yards as most autos do at 25.
no worries about routine spring replacments or trouble shooting bad magazines.
these guns are very underappreciated by todays modern shooter.
they were the gold standard of defensive guns for nearly a century.
another bouns is you can usually buy them cheap- my last smith model 10 ( a 4 inch skinny barrel) was bought for 165 bucks. It will hold a 5 inch group at 50 yards hand held.
Nice revolver…I was issued one when I started with the PD 22 years ago. Then we changed to Glock 17, now Glock 22’s and 23’s, and we now allow 1911’s, which is what I run now…
I’d like to have another K-frame again as I only have a 640 J-frame…
The first handgun I ever owned was a 4" bull-barreled Model 10 with “Police Department, Lincoln Nebraska” stamped in the backstrap. I used it to send a lot of bullfrogs to their greater reward with 148-grain wadcutters over 3 grains of Bullseye.
These days my only K-frame is an 8 3/8" Model 17. It shoots honest 1" groups at 25 yards off the bench. On days when I think I’m getting good, it reminds me how far I have to go.

I never thought I could love a revolver till I took the plunge with this S&W 15-3. I’ve owned a few revolvers (Taurus 66 and 85, S&W BG38), but nothing compares to this older K-Frame.
I truly appreciate why they called it the “Combat Masterpiece”. I think my next revolver will be a Model 19, so I can get into the magnum realm.
I’ll tell you why I finally broke down and paid the asking price (too much) for a 2.5" 66. Ever since I saw the Clint Eastwood movie, “The Gauntlet”, I wanted one. Clint’s alcoholic, burned out cop character carried one of those. I wanted it more than the Dirty Harry’s model 29.

I’ve been shooting IDPA with semis for about 5 years and this year switched to SSR with this gun. Learning how to run this thing quickly for gaming has been an uphill, but helluva lot of fun, battle!
