I am a member of shotgunworld.com but got really sick of it. If you don’t own a SxS or O/U that cost more then $1k you are not welcome there. Anyone know of any “modern” shotgun forums?
What are trying to get out of a modern shotgun forum?..there’s only so much you can do/learn with a modern shotgun.
There’s shotgunforums.com. I think it’s relatively new. I don’t know if it’s exactly what you’re looking for or not, but it doesn’t sound anything like the other forum you describe.
There is a forum on shotgunworld.com purely for tactical shotguns.
I have to respectfully disagree with this statement. “Running” a tactical shotgun is a far more difficult and complex task than running a mag fed semiautomatic rifle or pistol. From dealing low capacity, different ammo, high recoil, and all the complex manipulations required of a shotgun I would say there’s more to learn/do on a tactical pump than either pistol or carbine.
To the op, if there is a better tactical shotgun forum than this site I haven’t found it. SGW seems full of “collectors” as opposed to actual shooters.
Gonna go with a big “no sir” on this one. Research Rob Haught. He’s a shotgun virtuoso. I would love to add training with him to my list. Running a modern defensive shotgun is, by no means, an easy art and it is assumed by many to be the easiest of firearms to deploy. I disagree.
You can try Combat-Shotgun.com. Its a relatively new forum that appears to have been started/moderated by Aippi.
I definitely agree with you. I’m constantly baffled at the people who recommend a 12-gauge pump gun or J-frame pistol to the novice. Frankly, they are best deployed by experts, and require a lot of thought and practice to operate at a high level of proficiency.
Two weeks ago I was in a shotgun class, taught by a retired SoCal SWAT instructor and another very highly respected retired SWAT officer. It was very useful, and hammered home how manipulation-intensive a shotgun is. But also how devastating in trained hands.
And my 870 with an Aimpoint is very useful for creating a hole the size of a golfball in a human head, or where ever else I want it, out to 100 yards. Think of it as a large-caliber manually-operated rifle, and you’ll be amazed at what you can do.
I’m not hating on you jahwarrior1423, and I do prefer a carbine for social work. But I would not feel under-equipped with my personal 870, if I am forced to repel boarders.
And please, nobody bring up the “Cone of Doom!” ![]()
Absolutely
I used to be a big “shotgun guy” dedicating the majority of my long gun training to shotgun. My first non pistol training class was Rob Haughts class where I was awe’d by what a true professional could do with a shotgun. That motivated me to practice hard with my shotgun to become as proficient as possible my 870. Then I took my first carbine class and I realized how much harder you have to work and think when running a scattergun vs a carbine. Soon after I switched my focus to carbines and I haven’t looked back since. Shotguns definitely have their place, and I have no regrets going as far as I did with the shotgun, but carbines are just simpler/more capable period. The amount of thinking required in running a carbine vs a shotgun isn’t even close, you can literally overload your brain trying run a shotgun at a high rate of speed. In the end the magician is more important than the wand, but shotguns are by far the most difficult wand to master IMHO. Oh and the people who recommend shotguns to novices are probably shotgun novices that have never “run” a scattergun
Sorry for going so off course from the original question.
I’m a member there too and I find your characterization to be far from the mark.
But whatever floats your boat…
I, too, disagree. I’ve fund much good info on 1100s, Model 12s and Benellis. There are sub-forums for just about any shotgun or shotgun use you can think of.
