27 years after putting my first CAR stock on an AR, I just did it again…
I’ve tried dozens of telestocks over the years (B5 Bravo being my current favorite), but this “old” design has its virtues too: simple and very light weight, something ARs have been moving away from, regrettably.
I like it! Any other fans here?

Since you asked, I hate the CAR stock. Uncomfortable, ugly too short from heel to toe and lack convenient sling mounts. They are also painful to shoot when on a 308

If you like compact, simple, lightweight and even a bit more comfortable, you should consider the LWRC compact stock option.
I like the way they look but they don’t function for me.
I’ve been watching “Restrepo” and “Korengal” on netflix. And you can see many of these old stocks in use by the soldiers in the Korengal valley.

Toe is too short, body is too short. Them thangs will catch beard hair and pull it out by the fist-full.
I gave a couple of Colt N stocks away before they were retro.
I got the retro bug, and restored this carbine to the state as it existed in early 2000s. The CAR stock looks good on 10.5" or 11.5" carbines, and looks pretty good here, but it takes a big step back in ergonomics. It’s just a bit shorter than the ribbed M4 stock, but the pad is too small, barely usable is all I can say about it other than its looks lol.
I absolutely love them. Use them on all my builds.
I used to run SOPMODs on all my builds, and while the cheek weld is awesome and comfortable, the stock is also extremely bulky and heavy. I decided to start trying lighter weight options, so I moved to Magpul CTRs. And while they are a really nice stock, they can even be on the heavy side. I decided to try CARs and waffles again just to go with the lightest weight option and I was blown away at how much I liked them. The extremely light weight just makes it feel like a different gun. Plus, the CAR in particular is very short and you can get an extremely compact OAL. I use one on my Mk 12 clone and have been out on the gun for hours in prone and have been able to group on steel out to 500 just fine - so the lack of the SOPMOD cheek weld clearly isn’t affecting my shooting.

I like them only on a retro build for the same reasons other have mentioned here - toe too short, no angle, lack of rubber buttpad etc. I do like the looks though.

I never thought I’d see the day that Duffy’s rifle would seem ‘retro’.
That was pretty high speed and it seems like just yesterday.
For a general carbine I too like the CAR-15 stock. I’m not a hairy man so the beard thing has no bearing, but it fits my shoulder pocket so well. I have a few (not for sale) laying about waiting for a build or two.
Love 'em. I would use all Colt N stocks if I could afford them, but dang, they are getting pricey.
That’s the one thing I like about them. The whole funky angle on the Magpul stocks is a bit annoying but I guess it helps those guys who wear armor?
Haha, I recently built an M16A1 clone, and while I like the capabilities on my favorite AR (IR target designator, flashlight, ACOG TA31ECOS, all the stuff I want and none of the stuff I don’t), it’s heavy and unwieldy.
The M16A2 clone (pictured below), while long due to its 20" barrel and A1 stock, is light and nimble.
I really tried to like the CAR stock, the CAR stock and I go way back to my college days when I got my first Colt carbine in the mid 80s, I just can’t shake the thought that it’s good enough to get the job done, but not great at it. For something light, the ribbed M4 stock is great, it’s not much longer.
I love them, but only on ultralight builds. Otherwise it is Magpul MOE-SL or STR.

I can’t get enough N stock.
I really wish Magpul would create a true minimalist stock in the MOE-K line. MOE-SL is too much toe, too long. LWRC “Compact” is FAT.
