Any Day Shooting is a Great Day...

But this one could have been better…

Went shooting my new Stag for the 1st time today, received the parts and assembled Tuesday.
Last time I fired an M16 was in October 1999.
WOW!!!
I’ve shot my shotgun and pistol since but I hate to say, as for shooting any rifles, the last time I even fired my 10/.22 was probably 6 years ago.
Ouch.
Perishable skill that.
I knew that of course and expected to be rusty, but I didn’t think I’d suck that bad.
As I recall, the goal was to zero in 6 rounds and fire 3 more to confirm the zero.
We used to joke that we zeroed in 3, confirmed in 6, and fired 3 more just for the hell of it.
I started out just having 60 rounds of Wolf for blasting.
I was also trying/piddling with zeroing on a slightly wobbly shooting table.
I wish I could say that it was all the table wobbling and the Wolf, but it wasn’t.
Need to start out with the 4 fundamentals again and work my way into it.
Was nicer when Uncle Sugar paid for the rounds though.
Then, when cleaning the rifle, I know how I was holding it but don’t know why with the take down pin pushed out but the pivot pin still in and the upper pivoted down and got my thumb in between the front of the mag well and the delta ring.
Quite a bit of leverage there.
Man, that hurt.
Of hundreds of times cleaning M16’s I never did that.
One that I will make sure not to do again too.
Definitely looking forward to doing some blasting again and glad I finally got an EBR.

With a still throbbing thumb but happy I got to do some blastin’,
Greg

come on man its like riding a bike, i bet next trip to the range it will all come back to you, at least i hope it does. my first outing with my ar was similar i’ve had it about 2 years and put roughly 5k through it, i feel alot better about my self even shooting on the move. but i can tell i have alot more practice to do. i’m considering taking the RDS off and just running irons for awhile. anyways good luck and congrats.

Some of that cheap ammo is a waste unless all you want to do is make noise. I cut my groups in half or less by just switching brands.
