I’ve been considering the Rock River Arms 9 mm AR for a long time now. In stock form, it requires a special hammer for the short and steep bolt ramp. Several vendors (like ADCO) offer bolt ramping service to lengthen the ramp to make it compatible with standard .223 hammers.
So, my question is, is there any advantage (other than lower cost) to leaving the RRA 9 mm bolt unramped?
I am far from an expert on 9mm AR info, but I have heard from several different reliable sources that if the bolt is not ramped, you’ll get more trigger slap (similar to what happens with AKs) and it’s considerably harder on your parts than if it’s ramped. The lower initial cost could easily end up costing you more later because of broken parts.
I would highly suggest that you just get the bolt ramped, or if you plan on keeping it as a 9mm, just get the 9mm hammer. I can’t remember where I heard this, but “Buy quality parts and you’ll only cry once.”

ARguy45 is dead on. There are no reasomns to have an unramped BC. The fact Colt rushed a 9mm subgun out and left the bc as it was did nothing but create a secondary market for gunsmiths to fix both bc and even worse, repair lowers, sometimes expensive class 3 lowers, where the pins were egging the holes out of spec.
KNS found a market in this as well with their non-rotaining pin set.
