Gun Control Advocate Shoots Intruder

By Bob Ellis on January 7th, 2010

What would you think if a long-time gun control advocate ended up shooting someone? Might the word “hypocrite” come to mind?

It did for me, and apparently for many others.

The Richmond Times-Dispatch reports North Carolina state senator R.C. Soles shot one of two intruders who attempted to break into his house.

But it gets even more interesting than the mere hypocrisy of a gun control activist shooting somebody.

The New York Times reports Soles won’t be seeking re-election, which is not a surprise since state prosecutors have said they plan to charge Soles because “he acted criminally when he shot a former law client.”

WWAY sheds additional light on this:

Thursday, a Columbus County grand jury found probable cause to seek an indictment against Soles for assault with a deadly weapon inflicting serious injury.

In late August, Soles shot 22-year-old Kyle Blackburn outside the Senator’s home in Tabor City.

Blackburn was a client of Soles’ law firm. Soles told police he shot Blackburn in self-defense, saying that Blackburn was trying to break into his home. Blackburn told us he was leaving the property when he was shot.

While what happens within a grand jury proceeding is secret, we can presume that ballistics evidence was part of what was reviewed yesterday, specifically whether the bullet wound indicated that Blackburn was facing the Senator or running away when he was shot.

We also know surveillance cameras were running at Senator Soles’ house at the time of the shooting.

The shooting itself wasn’t captured on camera, but what transpired before and after the shooting may have helped the jurors determine how the events played out.

Now, I don’t have a whole lot of sympathy for someone who advocates diminishing the Second Amendment rights of law-abiding Americans. But when I learn that they consider themselves elite enough to own a weapon, any sympathy I might have had goes out the door.

And apparently this wasn’t even a clear-cut case of self-defense. The shooter knew the man who was shot, and a grand jury found sufficient evidence to charge the shooter for criminal activity.

This happened a few months ago, but I’m just now finding out about it from Marty Rickard. Better late than never, to find out about this kind of hypocrisy from a member of the gun control lobby.

Some are more equal than others, ya know…

I am shocked, I tell you! Shocked!

One of our elected representatives, exercising a right he would take away from us???

gasp…

Should have called 911 and waited.

This story is only useful if it is taken advantage of, and I hope the locals do so. It is doubtful the guy will turn, but there is hope.

Typical.

Its quite obvious these politicians feel they are monarchy and we are just the lowly peasants, who I might add fund all of the politicians criminality thru exorbitant levels of taxes!!!

2 more P.O.S vehemently anti-gun politicians who have carry permits: Feinstein & Schumer. I guess they feel their lives are more important than ours and our children.

“Four legs good; two legs bad!”

Just like Carl T. Rove. He, too, was anti-gun but shot intruders. These guys know what the 2nd Amendment is all about. They wish that We the People be disarmed to make it impossible for us to resist.

We don’t want him.

Jay

I was just referring to him laying of the guns… anyone who cannot use logic is not wanted…

I hate anti-gunners as much as the next guy…but if the “law client” was trying to break into the guy’s house he deserved the bullet.

John Wayne, you apparently missed the part about a Grand Jury finding enough evidence that the Senator commited a criminal act to refer charges against him. Indicating that the man shot either was not attemtping to break into the Senators home, or was fleeing the location (and apparently outside, since no mention of actual entry to the home was made) when shot.

F is for fighting, R is for Red, E we elect them, E we eject them, in the land of the free and the home of the brave, D for your dying, O your overture, M they will cover your grave with Manure. This spells out Freedom, it means nothing to me, as long as there’s a P.M.R.C.

No, I caught that part…but as the old saying goes, you can indict a ham sandwich.

I don’t know if this was a good shoot or not…but my default position is that if an intruder winds up dead on your property where you were minding your own business then the benefit of whatever doubt there is ought to go to the person who was in their own castle.

Agreed.

Yes, I think we all agree.

What most people are saying is that the guy is a royal hypocrite and should have just dialed 911 since he thinks that is good enough for the rest of us.

The added enhancement of the story with possible “bad shoot” circumstances etc just makes it more delicious about his hypocrisy.

You know what his defence will be right? The gun made me do it! So if we did not have guns in this country, he would not be in trouble and all would be well…

what a douche

I agree that the “bad shoot” (oh snap, quotes!) circumstances make the story more satisfying for us to get to see the anti-gunner go down, but I think that the story has more power for our cause if it was a righteous shoot.

If Soles defends himself with a gun successfully and legally, he becomes a triumphant example of the concept that firearms defend against the bad guys, and he really wallows in hypocrisy if he does anything but become the biggest supporter we’ve got.

On the other hand if he goes down in flames for shooting an intruder, he can be spun into just another poor soul caught up in the perpetual web of gun violence, just another victim of the evil gun culture of America (the sound in the background you hear is me vomiting a bit as I type that).

He may be a real dirtbag but it would be better to make an enemy into an ally in this case than just see an enemy go down and be potentially replaced by someone just as bad. If they were stupid enough to elect this guy I don’t have faith that they’ll do any better with his replacement.

You beat me to it. I was about to post the same thing. Good shoot = one for the good guys… His hypocrisy only strengthens the cause. :stuck_out_tongue:

No disagreement from me. The “bad shoot” I said makes it more “delicious” in his hypocrisy. Not necessarily a better example for gun rights etc. Ie, easier to make fun of and criticize him.

please excuse the excessive quote marks. My fingers made me do it

I do believe this may have been a lovers quarrel.
