Another Newbie Question

My son is a lefty and I was wondering if there is some sort of deflector to keep the spent casings from flying back at his face??? some kind of add on?? always great info from this site thanks in advance

There’s already a thread going on here for lefties.

The general consensus is that left-handers are fine shooting right handed ARs.

Like he said, there are some really good Lefty threads goin’ on around here. But to answer your specific question about deflected brass…

The U.S. Military doesn’t do anything special for lefties. I know that’s ambiguous, but hey… Other than deflected brass, there are ambi controls you can look into. That other thread has some great info.

That’s not what he’s asking. He’s asking if there’s anything available on the market that deflects spent shell casings away from a left-handed shooters face.

There’s already a case-deflector (not sure of the actual name) built into your upper, it’s the triangle shaped protrusion behind the ejection port.

The Shell Deflector protects both right and left handed shooters…so if you got a Shell Deflector than you are gtg…if you don’t have one at all then you should look at either getting something like the KAC shell deflector rail attachment or altogether get a upper rec. w. a shell deflector built in.

Or get a left handed AR.

Someone makes an upper without a shell-deflector?

KAC seems to think so:)

All of the older M16A1 style rifles lacked the brass deflector. It was introduced on the M16A2, there are some later A1 type carrying handle uppers that did have them.

There used to be a snap-in deflector that clipped in on the right side of the rifle and used the hole in the carrying handle to secure it with a spring loaded detent.

You could try a company like Sarco or one of the others that advertise in Shotgun News with older parts and surplus.

Either you can get a left hand ejecting AR, or the much cheaper Surplus Brass Deflector they used to issue many, many moons ago.
