So, say hypothetically, after waiting 9 months, someone received a couple of F1s back from an examiner asking to correct a very small clerical error. The someone then overnighted the corrected F1s back the next day. How long, hypothetically, would it take to get those approved forms back?
So let’s say hypothetically you tell us what the hypothetical errors are so we can hypothetically try and give you a reasonable hypothetical answer.
Just a mixup on the the listed engraving notes. Examiner sent what it should be corrected to, corrections were made exactly as suggested, forms were mailed back. What’s funny is the examiner actually signed and approved one of the forms, must’ve caught the error after he had signed the one…
Tell me these don’t get stuck on the bottom of the pile.
Most report getting their stamp 2 weeks after sending back the corrected form.
Chances are you will be ok. I made a SNAFU on a Form, I made the correction and then sent it back priority mail to my examiner with sig confirmation. About 10 days later approved form was received.
My experience as well.
There’s no getting in to back of the line all over again, it’s actually a fairly minor delay in approval.
What the heck are “engraving notes”? I never put anything of the sort in, on, or with my F1. ![]()
F1 Box h
h. Additional Description (Include all numbers and other identifying data which will appear on the firearm)
This is seemingly open to interpretation and varies by examiner. I’ve heard of some guys leaving it blank and getting away with it, I’ve heard of some examiners requiring what exactly will be engraved on the firearms, as mine did. I’ve personally experienced examiners “doing this box differently.” Mine just happened to be a clerical error on what was listed to be engraved.
Ah… I’m one of the “blank” guys. My forms went through a few years back though. ![]()
I am curious if mine will get kicked back I did not fill out box h either because my class three that helped me fill it out said it was not necessary
Let us know. Depending on what trickery Ali Bama tries with the ATF… I may no longer be registering anything.
From what I gather in reading the other’s threads on this through the years, blank SHOULD be fine, about 90% of the time.
This was my experience. I had to correct a component of the CLEO signature form came back very shortly thereafter.
I had an issue with a supressor. Wrote the check out of an old closed account instead of my new one. The check obviously bounced. They sent me a letter asking for a new check. I sent them a new check out of the right account and had my stamp about 2 weeks later.
Just sent out another form 1 today. I mailed it out with a check from my closed account, I will update if it “expedites” my forms at all.
LOL. I should have stated that they didn’t send me the letter for a good 5 or 6 months. Not sure why they sent the notice at the end when they normally cash the check first thing.
Well I suddenly feel stupid… :sarcastic:
oh well guess you can never have to many sbr lowers
All of my form 1’s have been blank in the ‘markings’ box… never a problem.
IIRC the payment is received and then sent to Atlanta where it is cashed. The file probably shows payment received and then once it is detected to be bad it is noted and then sent back to NFA branch. They then stick it in the file and forget about it since it is going to be months before someone actually starts to scrutinize it.
That makes sense. Since then I have always made sure just to get a Postal Money order for my NFA stamps. Cuts out one more aspect of human error.
