Another freakin ACR thread....

 Yeah, I know. Anyway, I finally got to finger one today. First thing I noticed was how much it weighed! It wasnt as front end heavy as Ive heard but overall heavy. Fit and finish was nice I didnt care for the grip or grip angle. Magpul plastic sights suck and the safety felt airsoft quality at best. Also the chargin handle seemed very underbuilt and you could see where it was already beating the hell out of the receiver from being slammed forward. Why the HELL do they have a M4 grenade launcher cut out on the barrel!? And the “pston” guide for the operating piston really looks lik a big after thought. Im not bashing the ACR, I liked it but for Gods sake make it cheaper! Cause you aint gettin $2200.00 worth in my eyes. Im very glad I didnt wait and got my SCAR…

I’d like to make a counter point, but I cant :stuck_out_tongue:

  1. Fit and Finish are very good on ACR’s.

  2. I personally didnt have a problem with the grip angle. It fit my hand well. The ACR has some of the best ergos in the business IMHO

  3. MBUS sights = low end. A joke at $2200

  4. Safety does feel dinky. Needs a more tactile click between settings.

  5. Charging handle feels flimsy, true, and I saw some marring where it had impacted the upper. Though, the same is true for the SCAR.

  6. M4 profile barrel is retarded

  7. The piston system does look like some AR15 conversion kit. Though, it seems to work well based upon my trigger time

If it was $2000 with a folding stock and rail, I’d get it over the SCAR. As it is though, the ACR has a lot to prove to command KAC, and SCAR prices.

Ever since the initial announcement for the then Masada, I had my hopes set on one.

I’ve only got to finger fudge one too. I’m sure it will shoot nicely and accurately if there is no problems with the quick detach barrel.

And I used to be negative on the SCAR back during speculation.

After owning a XCR and now a SCAR I’ve come to the conclusion that a quick change barrel is not necessary, neither is the need for a instant change multi-cal. As it was once said by another, it’s a solution looking for a problem.

In my opinion the ACR missed it’s mark. Unnecessarily heavy for a 5.56. I’ll dare to guess that a folder will yet add some more weight. It may garner some LE buys but mil won’t bat an eye at that price or weight and possible problematic quick change barrel assy.

I’d say junk the QD barrel assy to cut weight, costs, and complexity issues and make it an American alloy w/AR parts version of the G36.

The SCAR came way out on top in my opinion.
Very light, accurate, and the smoothest shooter of them all. Very quick double taps/follow up shots. And I adjusted quickly to the reciprocating charge handle. And the prices have dropped too. Posh and snobby Scottsdale Gun Club even has them now at $2500 along with it’s copy cat store next door, USAutoweapons. That comes to $2150 to 2300 in the rest of the non SGC world.

I personally like the advent of QD barrels.

It’s a feature I’ve gotten veeerrryy spoiled by with my XCR. And for a gun like the ACR, or SCAR, where the upper has the serial number, you need some type of QD barrel system if you plan on SBR’ing it.

It’s going to be hard to roll back the clock on QD barrels now, and return to a static barrel/vices/armorers wrenches/specialized armorers skills

It’s pretty much a feature I will require going forward, which is why I have an XCR, and SCAR, and want a Steyr AUG and LMT MRP

I did like the rifle overall but Im a smaller guy and the SCAR just fits me better, Im sure theadjustible ACR stock would help. I really would like an ACR but I dont ever see them in the price range I would pay. And it felt like I was Holding a 7.62x51 rifle. The QD barrel system is nice but I dont see a whole lot guy guys carrying spare barrels around. As for me, I pretty much set up my rifle and forget it…

Edit:
Theres no way for the SCARs charging handle to impact the receiver when slammed forward, it stops about 1/8" from the end of the channel…

The best way to improve the AR15 is to unscrew the front sight post and put a new gun under it. - Kevin McClung as quoted in Magpul’s 2007 SHOT Show Masada brochure

 that quote seems even more ironic now that the ACR has been “bushmastered”.

So far I agree with everythign after my handling of one in the fun shop, safety feels like a toy, charging handle sucks ( I would prefer a FAL knob or hook like a Griffin Sig556), but I was amazed how smoooooooth the action was

This is a big chairborn fallacy about the intent and purpose of QD barrels. Many civilians have latched on this fantasy of a SEAL going from sniper to CQB in 30 seconds, but it will never happen that way

QD barrels are there to reduce the logistical and support footprint. QD barrels simplify the supply chain, and costs. This is not a field serviceable endeavor.

Armorers and Supply will have a much easier time maintaining and storing 100 SCARs with each having 10", 14" and 18" barrel lengths compared to storing and maintaining 100 M16 lowers, plus 100 MK18 uppers plus 100 M4A1 uppers, plus 100 MK12 uppers, plus varying stocks etc etc etc.

Transport and storage alone immediately benefit from the use of the SCAR.

Im talking civilian use with QD barrel but I agree on this one with you for military use…

I don’t know, I like the QD barrel functionality on my XCR a lot.

It’s something I utilize fairly often depending on my mood.

And I certainly would appreciate with great love and adoration, the ability to go from 16" to 10" with my SCAR (*Hint for FN)

It’s a feature I will use without question after I get an ACR. In fact the sole reason I am selling my SCAR is the lack of barrel modularity.
