Annual New Years Machine Gun Shoot 2012

Every year my club hosts a machine gun shoot to help ring in the new year. Last year, we held it on New Years Eve, and this year, do to scheduling conflicts with a match that was using that specific range, we held it on January 2, 2012.

This is a relatively small gathering of shooters and machine gun owners from around Virginia. Nothing line Knob Creek and we’re not trying for that…just a really good group of guys getting together to go loud.

There were some really interesting belt feds that made appearances; WWII German MG-15 and a couple MG-34’s, HK 21’s, a Browning M1917A1, and a Russian Maxim M1910 that was manufactured in 1943, but captured by the Finns in the Continuation War and then used to kill Russians.

I got some trigger time on a post '86 dealer sample RPD, which was very cool. Very easy for a wookie to shoot off hand.

Lots of full auto and select fire subguns and assault rifles as well.

Anyway, needless to say, a blast was had by all…

Very cool. It looks like a blast. I had a few guys down to Texas in September to get together for a shoot at my place. A couple of MGs were there, but nothing crazy. We were down by the river shooting trash or just into the water, but it was a lot of fun. We found out later that the spot we were at was only about 100 meters downstream, on the opposite bank from where some members of TOS had a shoot about a week later.

That the wife unit in the first few pics? If so, respectfully, she’s very good looking.

Looks like a hell of a time.

Nope, just a friend who likes to shoot.

It was a literal blast, for sure.

Well, she’s a cutie for sure.

I caught the pun, whether intended or not in your first couple posts. I wasn’t going to say anything, but I got a chuckle thinking about it.

That’s awesome, I’m jealous.

I don’t know if there is a cooler gun than the Thompson M1A1.

I’ll give you the 1911. MP-44, sure, maybe. Garand, very close.

I know it was not as practical as an MP-40, Sturmgewehr, M3, or maybe even a PPSh, but damn, I just don’t think it gets any more badass than that. Would give anything to rock n roll with one someday.

What a wonderful way to spend the day, with your father and good friends.

I really do like the photo of you and the Thompson. Makes for a great business card.

Life is good.

Its pretty badass. I’d love to have a full auto one eventually.

Damn Tim,

You need to bring that action down to my parents’ farm son.

Man what an awesome weapon. This had to be a terror to the guys in WWII. I’d hate to think I’d have to go up againist this piece of work.

Looks like you guys had a real blast.

I was thinking the same thing watching one of the videos where the woman shooting went cyclic. Then I actually felt a little bad for the Germans gunners when I looked at the freaking HUGE mount that thing is on. Looks wicked heavy.
