Coming off the long weekend, we’ve got an announcement to make, and some things to clear up based on some questions that we still seem to be getting. First, we’ve added a new instructor—actually a “Director of Carbine Operations”-- in order to support the training schedule as well as support the development and testing efforts. Magpul Dynamics is pleased to announce that Jon Canipe is now a full time member of the instructor staff. Jon comes to us after a 12 year active duty career with the US Army, most of which was spent in various capacities inside the SF community. Jon brings the experience of hundreds of combat missions and a tour as a senior instructor at USAJFKSWCS to continue the sharpened focus of Magpul Dynamics on training that works in the real world with instruction techniques and mindset proven in the most demanding environments possible. Please join us in welcoming Jon aboard.
The other things I’d like to address regard some of the questions we still get regularly. First, no matter what your feelings around this are, Chris Costa and Travis Haley are no longer part of the Magpul training program in any way, shape, or form. If you want training from these individuals, they have their own activities, and you can seek that out from them as individuals. The Magpul Dynamics “Art of” series of videos was produced during their tenure, and consists of their training methods, philosophies, manipulations, and thoughts, at the time of filming. I cannot speak for how much or little either of their current training parallels the videos, but Magpul training has departed significantly from much of what you see in the “Art of” series. Steve Fisher is still an integral part of the program. Steve comes from a long tenure in the training industry with a law enforcement background. Although he came on board during the previous administration, his true training philosophies were more in line with what we are currently doing, and he began the move to where we are now months before I showed up to take the reins of command. Steve may hurt some feelings from time to time, but he is a fantastic instructor, and brings great value to the program. Caylen’s precision program is absolutely top notch. After doing some training with Caylen and seeing his PR program in action, it was no surprise that his professional clientel is expanding rapidly. Jon is on the same page with what we are doing currently, so his initial integration into the program has been seamless. He’s a true professional, with a lot of valuable experience and great instructional technique. We look to great things from Jon as his role here develops.
For a first-hand peek at the new program with Jon, Caylen, Steve, and me…right now, you’ll have to rely on some of the AARs that are starting to appear, with the exception of Caylen’s portions of the precision DVD. There have been questions about what is going on with video plans, and I will say this much: We will most likely release all remaining material from the “Art of” series in a boxed set/update. That will clear out the vaults and put a close to that chapter of Magpul Training. If you want more of what this series is/was, then this will be everything that hasn’t seen the light of day. What you see in the “Art of” is not what we are currently doing, but that isn’t to say that there isn’t material of value in the “Art of”-- we are, however, doing this to be able to move forward.
The next material from us will most likely not be in DVD format…the “Art of” changed what a training DVD was, and the next step will be more revolutionary than evolutionary as well. The next step is in the works currently.
