The AN/PVS-22 Universal Night Sight (UNS) is the premier clip-on Night Sight in the U.S. arsenal. Until recently, it was only available to military and law enforcement customers. But, these restrictions have been lifted and the PVS-22 is now available for commercial sale! But, I will say that this is one of the best night vision devices available for the serious shooter.
The PVS-22 has been gaining popularity in the hunting crowd because of its versatility. It attaches to the rail in front of your day scope and guarantees less than 0.5MOA deviation from your established zero. The optics are specially aligned at the factory. So, you can literally plug and play. It will not matter if your day scope doesn’t completely align dead center with the UNS. The obvious benefit is that the shooter can keep his rifle setup “as is” and can attach/detach the PVS-22 at will. This keeps you from having to setup another expensive gun with a dedicated expensive night vision scope just to hunt at night.
Another benefit of the PVS-22 is its ITT Gen3 PINNACLE Autogated Tube. Those that know, understand that PINNACLE was developed for the PVS-14 which is only rated for the AR15 platform (5.56mm). Using a PINNACLE tube on higher caliber weapons will damage it, unless we are talking about the PVS-22. The PVS-22 uses a patented Shock Mitigation System, exclusive to OSTI products. The SMS protects the tube from repeated recoil of higher caliber weapons, allowing the 22 to be used on .50 BMG rifles. PINNACLE tubes are brighter and clearer than standard heavy film tubes and really make a difference under magnification.
