Ammo Selection

Hey guys,

Just ordered my first AR, Colt LE 6920. Now I need to pick up some ammo. A bunch of you guys have recommended XM193 but it seems to be out of stock everywhere I’ve looked. I found some PMC Bronze 223 ammo that says it is made to M193 standard and seems to get mostly good reviews. Anyone have experience or opinions on this ammo?

I’m signed up for a basic carbine course on June 9 so I’m on a little time crunch.

Also, a majority of the bulk ammo in stock is listed as boat tail. Is this acceptable? I don’t foresee shooting more than 100-200 yards anytime soon. Thanks for your help guys?

Federal is fine. PMC is fine. UMC is fine. I wouldn’t recommend taking wolf to a class, but it’s generally fine as well.

PMC will be great for a class. Shouldnt have any probs at all.

Just PM’d you with some info and sources that might be helpful.

Welcome to M4C!

Wolf is fine, brown bear is fine and I am sure silver bear will work. I had a VERY bad experience with Tula in my DDM4 but maybe you will have better luck with it. If you happen across some IMI, better get it while you can it is really good stuff.

Just picked up 2 cases of 1200rds of IMI M855 (62gr) from Widener’s. Not sure if they still have any in stock but I would highly recommend buying some.

It was $400/1200.

I’ve been checking multiple times/day and have not seen it in stock. What do you mean by “just?”

Bought them on Monday of this week. Saw a post in the ‘Where Can I Get It’ thread, bought them the next day.

I shoulda woulda coulda at $375 but I didn’ta :frowning:

Wasn’t the 375 for the 55gr?

Don’t overlook some 62gr. ammo if it’s available. I’ve found that my 6920 shoots it better than the 55gr stuff, probably because of the 1/7 twist.

Bastard!

What about the 62 gr m855 green tip at $369/1000?

Cheaper Than Dirt has XM855 and XM193 in stock.

That’s a decent price.
Personally, I don’t like M855, as it is more expensive than XM193, in my experience has been less accurate than XM193, and in a short range anti-personnel role, tends to go thru and thru instead of fragmenting. (This is the reason the Army and USMC have moved to M855A1 or Mk318 SOST rounds.)

It’s $408 now, and out of stock.

I’ve shot thousands of rounds of PMC Bronze. Good stuff.
