Ammo Selection

I think if I had to grab something and go (as in pack up the family and evacuate), I would want an MP7.

I got 3188fps out of a lot of ‘07 Prvi and a 20" HBAR6601. I thought the TM said 3250@15’, but then someone found a link showing 3165 or something from the TM. Whatever it is, Prvi clocked 3188 avg. 10-shot string and Q3131 clocked 3275 10-shot string. The Prvi had a much lower SD though. It was also about 1 MOA more accurate from the CAR A3.

I think both the good and bad PRIV were in that range, just using different powders.

In any case 3188 is definitely on the Hot side. A good rifle should be able to run reliably on ammo loaded as mild as 2900 fps if the propellant is right.

I posted the following on another thread:

". . .I realized that M193, M855, and Mk 262 Mod 1 only have about a 1 MOA difference in trajectory out to 300 yards with either a 200(50) or 100 yard zero.

So I do my close training with 55gr and my long with 77 gr, since I do a lot of 200 and under, with most at under 25.

. . .I keep a few mags of 75gr 5.56 TAP for bad-day possibilities."

I draw a distinct line between training ammo and “go-to” ammo.

I really don’t look for great 55gr training ammo. A stoppage here and there is not a big concern, as it reinforces stoppage clearance drills, as long as it is fairly reliable. My personal training ammo is selected on the basis of price above other factors, within reason of course.

I do not shun Wolf, as I have had no issues. I am still working through a few crates of PMC M193(ish) I bought about 18 months ago and some LC M855 I got just before that. I have had no significant issues with either.

Have you checked the trajectory difference with a 50yd zero?

The Aguila, Fiocchi and S&B are all good to go for quality. I’ve shot them all and had no difficulties. They are reasonably priced as well as being clean and accurate. The Brit SS109 is sometimes not allowed when shooting steel so it depends on the range. Great performance otherwise, I’ve got a bunch.

Other brands I’d check out if you haven’t already are Norinco and Igman 5.56 M193 or SS109. The Norinco .223 is great range ammo, clean and very accurate. The Igman is very reasonable for 5.56 and performs great.
