I am pretty new to this board. I’ve mostly been lurking, looking around figuring out what I want to buy, and where to get it. I’ve got all my parts, and I’m anxious to get my first SBR put together. I’m still looking for my suppressor, which is out of stock right now.
What I do have at this time, is a Spikes Lower, with a PSA LPK, and a Geisselle SSA-E Trigger, and an 8.2" Noveske Upper in 300 BLK.
I was talking with the guys from Silencer Shop about the AAC 7.62SDN-6. They are telling me that NO company will warranty their can if you put it on a barrel of less than 10.5", and to make sure that the ammo I’m shooting stabilizes so I don’t have a baffle strike.
So…what are some loads to start with? What stabilizes best in a short barrel Noveske 300 BLK, 1 in 7 twist?
I was not aware that there were companies that did not warrant their can on 300 BLK barrels under 10.5 inches. I have heard that for Gemtech and 5.56mm cans, but never heard that for 300 BLK.
10.5 has been a rule for 5.56. Call aac the sdn was made specifically for subs. Checks out aac’s honey badger that has what an eight inch barrel with their surpressor.
Does it matter if anyone else knows about this? You were literally answered by a gentleman who works for the company who’s can you were looking at. His signature is a clue since you’re new.
If he works for AAC(he does)…and he’s never heard of a company not honoring a warranty on a can placed on a .300 BLK SBR…well I think that pretty well answers your question.
A 10.5 inch 5.56mm has a muzzle exit pressure of about 19,000 psi with M855. If you adjust that to the difference in bore cross-sectional area of 308, that would be like a 30-cal pressure of 10,080 psi - which is about the same as from an 8.75 inch 300 BLK barrel shooting 110 grain ammunition. AAC 300 BLK barrels are 9 inches, and so see less pressure than from a 10.5 inch 5.56mm.
I appreciate Rsilvers response. I’ve read a lot of his posts in regard to the 300 blk. And yes, I can see his signature, and i know he is in R&D for AAC. I was told something by the guy at the shop, and I am looking for confirmation here, from people who know. If you have something to add I’d be glad to listen. Your post really doesn’t add anything to this thread.
My original question was about what bullet weight is best stabilized by a 1 in 7 twist. If Rsilvers says they’ll warranty it, that’s great. But I would still rather not have a baffle strike and have to send it in to be warrantied.
So my original question still stands:
Can anyone give me a starting place in regard to bullet weight? What bullet weight is more likely to be stabilized in a 1 in 7 twist 300blk barrel?
Take your pick. I am 99% sure any of the current 300 BO loads can be stabilized in a 1/7 twist barrel without risk of a baffle strike.
I’m sure rsilvers will chime in but, from what I have read, the reason most manufactures went from 1/8 to 1/7 was to help stabilize the really heavy i.e. 240gr subsonics while still having good performance with the lighter stuff.
Cool man…I appreciate it. I’m new to the whole suppressor thing. Not really new to shooting, but never owned a suppressor before. And never had a 300 blk. I’ve been shooting for probably thirty years, and work in a job that involves a lot of shooting of military type weapons for the last 8, plus military time. I just don’t want to ruin my new suppressor by shooting something I shouldn’t be.
Like I said, I was just going off of what the guy in the shop said. And…well, you know how that goes.
Thanks for the info. I’ve got some of the Reminton 125’s ordered. And some of the Hornady 110’s. That’s all I could find in stock at the moment. I’ll order more as I find them.
Sounds to me like this would be an excellent round to shoot out of any length barrel regardless of bullet weight. Which also brings to light that this Smash guy might just be a troll and not understand all the technical lingo…as a matter of fact he kinda sounds like a guy I have worked with before and I know he was a tool

Well, I wasn’t answering your question regarding loads, but the question you asked which I quoted regarding AAC providing warranty service on .300BLK cans used on SBRs. In that regard, it appeared you did not know he worked for AAC and wanted more information regarding that facet of your question. Obviously I was wrong.
It’s cool man. I’m not very good at this intraweb thingy sometimes. And words don’t exactly flow from my mouth with a smooth understandable quality…
From what I’m reading and hearing, I won’t have a problem with AAC in regard to quality, or customer service. I was going to go with a YHM can, but because of all the positive stuff I’m reading about AAC I’m going to go that way.
