Ambi Safety Switch

Hey Gents, I’m a left handed shooter and in need of an Ambi Safety Switch for an LMT …Any Suggestions??? BTW, how difficult are they to put in??? Thanks In Advance, Take Very Good Care and Be Safe Always.

if you can remove the standard safety you can install a ambi one  dont worry it’s easy!

LMT makes one

They are easy to install–however–there is way too much locktite on the threading. You will need to remove some of this in order to install the screw on the ambi side. Make sure to repeatedly thread the screw several times before you actually tighten this sucker down on the rifle. I made the mistake of installing one straight out of the bag and the craptastic allen wrench snapped off INSIDE the screw head–flush. Had to have a gunsmith help me figure out what to do, we ended up dremeling a flat head slot onto the safety/into the screw in order to remove it. Even that was not as simple as it sounds due to the damn locktite and not being able to use larger tools.

I would like a better ambi selector option, or at least, I’d like LMT to supply an improved design and a higher quality allen wrench. I’m not sure why they couldn’t make a longer screw rather than trying to make the tiniest screw possible and hope locktite holds it together.

JP-Not the cheapest, but very good quality and user adjustable, no grinding/filing needed. Check Brownell’s or MidwayUSA.

I opted for the RRA Ambi-Star safety. Also added a Norgon Ambi-Catch. It was even easier to install than the safety and a great addition for a lefty.

I’ve been looking all over for an AMBI safety and I can’t find one in stock?

Ravenedge- be sure to re-loctite (blue) the grip screw when re-installing.

Then- go out and get a stripped lower and build it up with a parts kit! Nothing like building a lower from stripped to make you comfortable swapping stuff out of the lower! Not that much cash, and then you have a spare

Knights makes a great one. I have one on my SR-15 (that came with it, obviously), and wanted to buy a few more for my other lowers, but then I found out that they cost $115 each:eek:

I haven’t looked very hard yet, but from the looking I have done I haven’t been able to find an LMT ambi safety anywhere. At least not in stock…

Preferred User - what is the price on the Norgon? I didn’t see it on their website.

Thanks:)

Hey Gents, Thanks for the feedback, suggestions, and advice …Much Appreciated ;). Take Good Care and Be Safe Always. BTW, the Norgon is between $85 and $95 depending where you look. I did a google search and found a few places that had them on hand.

Thanks Ravenedge - I had gotten the impression from the Norgon websight that they were only available through them.

I got my most recent one from Botach - 89.95

The Norgons are available everywhere, Brownells, Bravo, Operation Parts, have you checked G&R? Adco? They are very much available.

Not quite everywhere. I checked G&R and Bravo before I ordered, they do not appear to even carry them.

FWIW Stag has Left handed safeties available on their site. They also have the ambi safeties in stock as well.

Ok…

These links are all ambi- mag catches, not safeties. Ambi-safeties seem to
be out of stock most places.
Seems CMMG has some in stock for $30. Don’t know how good they are though.
Also Cheaper than dirt has the DPMS ambi for $30.

I got my ambi safety from these folks: http://www.bhigear.com/ar-15andm16m4ambidextroussafety.aspx

I got my ambi safety from Bravo Co.I think the brand was DPMS.WHATEVER YOU DO !DO NOT USE LOCKTITE.
Now thats a warning from first hand experience.I put blue loctite on the threads tried to take it off and stripped the allen head right out.I had to get a drill and drill out the screw in order to get it removed.I tried heating it and everything before attempting to take the screw out.
I"ll say it one more time
DO NOT USE BLUE LOCTITE OR ANY LOCTITE WHATSOEVER ON THE SCREWS ON AN AMBI-SAFETY !
you have been warned don’t do it.
If anyone has done it and not stripped a screw consider yourself lucky. It has happened to me twice .It will not happen again.

Just out of curiosity what about loctite for small screws? I have used it several times on firearms, scope bases and rings it really is the shizzazz for the little screws.

I’m not going to try it.I don’t want to risk having to drill the screw out again for the third time. After two times I learned my lesson. The metal is really soft on those allen screws.
