Am I being a wanker...

I saw one of these smilies on the side of the message screen:

:suicide:

:suicide2:

Just hit me kind of funny. Yes they would be appropriate for some of the more Darwin-esque feats and stunts that people do, but it just struck me as innapropraite for a professional and serious gun board.

Not trying to be PC, we could replace them with smilies shooting Allah who is then eaten by pigs for all I care.

Yup. Wanker, that is.

It was probably added after the influx of dipshits, since reading so much of that stuff made me want to do just that.

Uhm, if you do can I get your LMT MWS and your radios?

I haven’t been here long enough, nor contributed enough, to ask for any changes, but I will say that I do not think you’re being a wanker. Those emoticons are just about as bad as avatars showing a person pointing a weapon at the camera.

Huh? What is wrong with a picture of someone pointing a gun?

They are most likely part of a package of smiley cons. You get one, you get them all.

If you do not like them, just don’t use them.

If you do find that smiley, let me know…

I think I made decent use of the particular smiley in my sig line:p

I feel this smiley is appropriate.

Nothing against BBQ.

I’ve noticed that if you feel like killing yourself, a flaming nut kick will almost certainly change your mind.

If you think that’s bad, I always liked this one.

Definitely low class but :stuck_out_tongue:

The beauty of emoticons, (kind of like free speech), is that one can either choose to, or not to use them. As to people’s avatars showing them pointing a gun at the camera, what’s the harm? Relax - it’s only the Internet…

I am already tired of seeing them. It is one thing to have emoticons to show sarcasm or a joke, the rest just make it look like a 12 year old kid just posted.

That’s right, and the internet, just like television, can be used to portray certain things in a manner that is at odds with responsible gun ownership. If you are my age category (45), the initial presumption is that the woman holding the gun in the photo you posted is pointing it at the person taking the picture. Right or wrong, uptight or not, that is where I am coming from.

But can you block them from view, so you don’t have to see them when someone else uses them? Now that would qualify as “the beauty of emoticons.”

What he said… seems simple enough to me.

what is a wanker???:suicide2::suicide2::suicide2::suicide2::suicide2::suicide2::suicide2::suicide2::suicide2::suicide2::suicide2::suicide2::suicide2::suicide2:

As one of the token Brits on the board I feel duty bound to tell you:

Wanker - someone who masturbates. Commonly used as an insult in Britain, as in “You’re a wanker” or, “He’s a wanker”. Can be replaced with the term “Tosser”. Both sometimes confusedly used as terms of endearment, affection or out of context in the USA - much to the amusement of Brits.

As to the subject of the thread. Nah, you’re not a wanker.
