I don’t have much experience withtoo many other brands producing Knee Pad/Elbow Pad protection for our demographic, but I purchased the ALTA Multicam Pads 2 months ago and I have been incredibly happy with them, especially for $27.50.
The Superflex Pads are extremely light weight and non-obtrusive when worn. They have excellent range of motion and most importantly, they stay exactly where you want them to be, ALL DAY LONG. I tend to do a lot of transitional drills at the range which means that I am my knees alot (thank you, in advance, for refraining from any inappropriate comments about me being on my knees alot) and I have never had to shift or replace the knee pads to their original position post drill. I just got back from the range and I wore them the entire time and they never moved once. I was using a drop leg and and M4 on a single point and they never conflicted with my support gear in any fashion.
Not to mention, they go great with my High Speed Gear Multicam shooters hat.
Just thought I would bring a good piece of gear to your attention, if you weren’t already aware that they were on the market. At this low of a price, I would feel guilty if I didn’t invite my new M4CN family to join in on the savings.
I gotta agree the Alta knee pads are very comfortable. I used them earlier this year and last year in a class and they were great. I’ve used Hatch and
some other no name brand before and it seemed to restrict circulation in my legs a bit.
I spend a lot of time on my knees(no jokes please I’ve heard them all:D ) and I’ve been using Alta pads for about 9-10 years and love them. The closed cell padding in the also seems to hold up longer than the BH and hatch versions.
I just got a set of these exact same knee pads, even in Multicam.
Being a neophyte with knee pads I am not sure exactly how or where on the knee they are designed to fit. Any guidance on getting these things on comfortably would be appreciated.
When wearing Altas (or other similar) I wear the top strap in the knee-joint or just above, and the bottom strap above the mid-point of my calf. I have the bottom strap fairly tight to keep the pad in place and the knee-strap loose-ish (very subjective term, I apologise, but it comes with feel), just tight enough to keep the knee-pad in place without cutting off blood-flow or causing excessive discomfort. It will initially be annoying to have a strap behind your knee, but with use will become less and less of a nuisance.
I usually cross the straps on my Altas. I just find it more comfortable, and I find that they settle in where I need them without much fiddling on my part.
I am not sure how the crossing of the straps would work on the superflex ones. The straps are not the same material. One is an elastic strap and one a webbing strap. Will try it though.
