I have been working on this one a while and thought I would return the favor of sharing (or showing off :D) since l was inspired by other posts. Of course I want to add a suppressor to complete it and may also do another upper for the suppressor if and when I can get the parts. I will probably go with the Gemtech multi mount since I want to use it on my other 9mm pistols also. I wonder if it will lose some accuracy suppressed. I can’t have a SBR here so this is my best attempt and choices without a stamp. Overall I am very happy with the performance and excellent reliability of my Monster. The large target below shows a typical group at 25 yards using the laser off the hip so to speak - repeat or quick fire. The small target shows a good group at 50 yards using the Atlas bi-pod and IOR pit-bull scope. I believe that was Hornady 124 gr XTP HP’s. The DDLES lower is very nice and reliable with the built in ramp and ejector. My lower has a number under 150. It is very well made. The DPMS upper was much cheaper and thick but works as good choice here. Shooting right handed I have no issues, especially with the PRI gas buster charging handle. I went with the AR gold trigger - Thanks Jerry for the recommendation. :dirol: IT’S NICE. I have Spikes to thank for the nice round pistol tube and awesome quad BAR rail. I hope they will eventually come out with their new dedicated 9mm upper. I am not sure why DDLES is not jumping on that first instead of the rail. The DPMS upper is very tight on the front pin or some material may just need to be filed off. I obviously have a lot into this but still less than an MP5 and a good platform for adding all the cool stuff. It does kick a little more than I thought it would, but barley notice any difference with or handles the +P+ well. I accidently got my lip once with the tube trying to use my left eye when adjusting in the iron sights, so i put on the bumper. It also keeps down the hurt if using the shoulder and tube to steady and brace the pistol. I felt the flash hider would be a thread protector or useless but the YHM compensator would not be. I built this around the ADCO custom ramped RR bolt that I had Robar coated while waiting for my lower. Other than the breach face it just basically wipes clean. I just spray a little Tech lube on it. I went with the Bravo chromed lined barrel as the best I could find (also easy to clean, abuse able and accurate) and had it cut to 8" and threaded 1/2 x 28. The compensator is the hardest thing to clean so I soak it overnight in Butch’s bore shine and then lightly dremmel with a thin rubber tip. The Spike’s and Yankee Hill Mags are the best, I think these are the same as the Metalform or CMMG. I am also trying the 10 round Promag but had to send it back to them because the last round consistently tumbled. I hope they can find the problem. My guess is the follower is the problem. They were very nice and even traded the mag loader I incorrectly purchased for a better or correct one. The mags from DDLES are just OK but not as nicely finished. The green (Vector Optics) laser (from China) is very decent for the price. I got it off Ebay and it is small and bright and is visible to great distances. Yes the scope is heavier, (designed for 3 gun) but not as bad to hold and shoot as you think, but thus the bi-pod and fun shooting from the bench. I think that covers it.
Thanks, Good question, some may debate, the difference is that it is not vertical, but angled - so OK. This is under 26.5 inches overall so would be a mistake to have a vertical grip with out the SBR stamp as I understand it
I have a good tube and the bumper helps. I can add a suppressor (with stamp) and a 100 round drum, just need to find another $1000. I am not going for a WMD, but while I am dreaming a full auto would also be nice.
Looks good. I have one of their lowers on the way, should be here next week. I’m doing a pistol build with a Colt 10.5" 9mm upper, my plans are to SBR it so in the mean time I can shoot it as a pistol til I get the stamp.
That should end up very nice for you. Post a pic when you can please. Obviously the stock will increase the length of pull for you and certanly make it easier to steady and see through the sights off the shoulder. If using the pistol tube off the shoulder a gel pad helps along with using an Aimpoint more forward on the upper reciever. If using the tube off the cheek the pistol can be harder to steady consistently as you can imagine or know. Anyway thats what I have to do and so far it works pretty good. Thanks
I decided to go with a CMMG dedicated lower, my dealer had both the DDLES and CMMG come in at the same time. I just like the look of a conventional lower better, however the DD was very nice. Anyways here’s a pic of my 9mm pistol.
Specs:
CMMG dedicated 9mm lower
Colt 10.5" complete upper, bolt was shipped out today to get ramped
RRA pistol tube
Vltor end plate
Blue Force UDC single point sling
MOE carbine handguards
Spikes ST-9X heavy 8oz 9mm buffer
Just curious, might the bipod make that an AOW? Very nice build and just finished up my 9mm sbr(pic attached). Looking at a trigger for my 9mm aside from the garbage that comes with rra 9mm carbines. Will that work with a dedicated(non-ramped) 9mm bolt? RRA has a single stage trigger for the 9mm, don’t know if I want a single stage though… sorry if I hijacked your thread, feel free to delete. MI FDE flip irons and trijicon reflex rx06 on the way.
The bi-pod is OK on a pistol as I undersatnd from my reasearch into it, note that its constructruction does not alow for it to form a vertical grip but angels out (only) when in the down position.
The ramped bolt is what allows for the use of standard AR trigger. Otherwise the 9mm hammer is needed. It was DDLES that recommended to me the use of the ADCO custom ramped (RR) 9mm bolt as the best available. I believe that if you have a non-ramped bolt that there is also a geltlemen known for doing this custom ramping. http://www.m60joe.com/ The only other 9mm bolt I saw was from CMMG. Also please note that the trigger I used has a low pull weight and may not be suitable for you depending on your intended use.
Please let me know if you have any other questions and I will try to help or send you some links.
Very nice looking 9mm AR you have there by the way.
Thanks for the info, going to have to get my bolt fixed up. Looking to use it as HD when I know its running at 100% and am used to the rra national match 2 stage trigger. Not sure how the single stage rra trigger i ordered will work out. What kind of front sight post is that?
I found that precision front sight post at the gun show. You know the guy with all the misc. AR parts. It was the thinest post I could find. I then dipped the point or tip into the bright sights hi-vis water based plastic paint a couple of times to form the ball shape and make it a little easier to see. It was a tight fit getting the post into the troy battle sight and needed to go all the way in or bottom out. Best of luck with your trigger and bolt!
