Alliant Powder produces America’s best and most popular smokeless powders. Engineered specifically for tactical AR-style firearms, new AR-Comp™ is very consistent and features burn rates ideal for today’s modern sporting rifles. This propellant also works well in semi-auto rifles for target shooting and practice, competition shooting and hunting.

RADFORD, Va. - June 8, 2011 - Alliant Powder introduces AR-Comp™, a smokeless, consistent powder developed specifically for the AR-platform. AR and semi-auto rifle shooters and reloaders can look for AR-Comp on store shelves now.

Made to Match

AR-style rifle shooters can count on high-performance ignition with every shot of AR-Comp. This powder was developed specifically for the demands of high-volume shooters. It offers consistent pressures and velocities across temperature extremes to handle heavy-power and high-volume shooting.

Consistent, Superior Performance

Consistent ignition makes AR-Comp a great option for modern sporting rifles. Steady metering and lot to lot consistency make AR-Comp a great option for all semi-auto rifles. It is also ideal for heavy .223 and .308 match bullets.

“AR-Comp is a breakthrough powder,” said Rick Stoeckel, Ammunition and Reloading Brand Director. “We developed AR-Comp to perform under all conditions in every environment. The type of performance it achieves in AR-style rifles really separates it from other powders. All semi-auto shooters and reloaders will be impressed.”

Interesting.

Temperature insensitive version of RE15?

Yeah. That is interesting. They say it meters good… that’s kinda like hearing an AR parts company say their stuff is “Mil-Spec”.

Looks interesting. If it is versatile and effective as TAC, I’ll be impressed.

I could not find any loads on the site. I love R15 for my M1A and I have been toying with R17 in my 300wsm for a while now great powders to say the least.

Alliants web site has always been lacking in loads for a broad range of bullets.

just my luck to come across this, right after ordering an 8 lb jug of tac.

:jester:

Having extra powder around is never a bad thing.

:agree: not to mention if cheaper… any idea of the cost in 1 and/or 8 # jugs?

Heh, and I just ordered 8# of Re15…

Single cans? Why?

Were the 5 lb’ers out of stock?

Unless there’s a fire.:jester:

Sorry, I was thinking big jugs were 8# but you’re right, they’re 5#.

Yeah, Ramshot 5# jugs are about as big as the Hodgdon 8 lb ones!

At Grafs the have 1# cans at $22 and 8 lb cans at $152. Not a great discount on 8 pounders. Works to about the same price per pound as they charge for the Reloader series. Powder Valley does not have it listed yet, but I would expect them to have it a few dollars cheaper like $18-$19/lb.

With a load of 25.6 gr for 3,359 fps It seems pretty close to TAC/H4895 in burning rate, just a little faster than Re15 or Varget.

Closer to an answer to Varget than TAC.

Had pretty good results tossing 69SMK’s down range. All loads hovered around 1 moa with largest being 1.5".

22.7 showed good potential as it held vertical very well. 4 shots went .540". Re-shooting the load again with a better scope. I loose a bit of accuracy when using the ACOG.

16" chrome lined mid-length BCM upper was used.

No velocity data, sorry.

I loaded up some 308 168 SMKs and 165 Nosler BTs with AR-COMP in the last few days. Shot them out of a Savage Axis.

It metered just fine out of my Dillon 550B. Had the chrono on but it was getting to dark to fast and I only got a few shots off.

168 SMK - Win - F210M - 42.0 gr AR-COMP - 2.800" - 2588 ft/s avg
165 Nos BT - Win - F210M - 42.2 gr AR-COMP - 2.810" - 2679 ft/s avg

After shooting up the rest of the 308s I’ll move on to loading some in 5.56 LC brass and shoot them out of my WOA 18. Anyone else have results to share?

I did some pressure testing to see how much powder I could go with and this is the results on the target. The ones labeled 75g BTHP and the ones labeled 75g AMax (both lower corners of the large square) are all in 0.2g steps. There are 7 rounds in each group. All shot from my RRA Varmint at 100y. The more centered group and the upper left group were with 77SMK’s and AR Comp powder also. The upper right group was with Federal GMM 77g. I will do more testing, to include longer ranges, when I get some more time.
