I like the Maxpedition active shooter bag w/ the pals front. Holds 10 AR mags verical w/ 2 on top. It has a small pouch up front for an extra bcg, ifak, etc.
If any of you are blessed enough to have a mills fleet farm nearby (best store of all time) they have surplus mole ar15 mag pouchs for 4 bucks apiece. each one holds 2 mags ontop of eachother. i pick one or two up each time i swing in there. they are a great source for other surplus items as well.
If you are looking for something to just carry they i like the Eagle active shooter bag. It is simple and holds about 10 mags. As for a chest rig. If you just want mags look at the Blue Force Gear 10 Speed stuff. They are very good and worl well.
I guess it depends on what you are carrying them for. If you’re thinking extended firefight on foot there are a bunch of tactical vests, plate carriers, and chest rigs that are all geared up out the wazoo that will have you carrying 6+ AR mags on your torso with no problem. Then you can add a padded “warbelt” and add at least 3 more (even more if you have that tactical prepper food-storage and thermal-insulation waistline).
Otherwise, there is an ammo can (I think it’s the SAW box Pmags alternating up/down. Having lived <2 miles from the beach for most of my 11 years in SE Florida I have had to “bug out” more than once for real and I always grab one of these cans and take it with me. 20 mags full of XM193, 4 mags full of Black Hills 75 grain (which I’ll be changing to something more New Hotness shortly). A .30 cal can works great if you want to tote additional loose ammo and holds ~500 rounds of 5.56 too. I carry both cans to training classes in addition to “bugging out”.

I also worked with US Grunt Gear to design this bag which I’ve been really happy with. I have two of them, one for brass and one for steel, and use them even more often than the cans for shorter range trips.
the best solution to be had… waterproof, dust proof, drop proof… if you had to you could throw that box over a fence or kick it across a road to get it to someone else in need… without worrying about the bag damaging or mags becoming damaged along the way.
Oh, and stackable/storable and your storage solution becomes your toting solution instantly as opposed to having to pack magazines into something else.
Every time I’ve “bugged out” I’ve taken this can with me along with the carbine equipped with a Redimag and two mags full of BH.
the standard .50 can won’t work, it’s not tall enough. I think that’s the SAW can in the picture but I’m not positive. You need to make sure whatever you pick is tall enough to fit the mags.
It won’t. Just checked a standard mag in a .50 can and it sticks up about 1/8", you can close it but it will either damage the lid (my was dented outward) or damage the mag.
def wont work if you are running ranger plates
I guess you could lay them sideways but I’m not sure how many it can hold that way.
What does said can say on the side of it? If it still has the .mil stencil nomenclature it’s easy to tell what can a guy should buy to replicate that set-up.
I have two. Neither are marked. I bought them both factory new without markings, along with a bunch of .30 cal cans from a guy that used to deliver to the gun shop I worked at. It’s got three vertical slots on the handle though, not the single round hole you see on most cans.
